Disney+'s first original historical drama The Murky Stream has unveiled its first stills.
On the 10th, the Disney+ original series The Murky Stream (written by Cheon Seong-il, directed by Chu Chang-min) released press stills that raise expectations about the characters' tangled relationships. The photos show the three main characters gathered around the muddy Gyeonggang River — Siyul (Rowoon), Choi Eun (Shin Ye Eun), Jeongcheon (Park Seo-ham) — along with Mudeok (Park Ji-hwan) and the gangsters, hinting at intertwined fates and arousing curiosity. Viewers are left wondering what changes these characters will bring to the chaotic currents of their world.
First, Siyul, who went from laborer to gangster after having a hidden past exposed to Mudeok, draws attention. Although Siyul sometimes shows a rebellious side in response to the gangsters' unfair treatment, she gradually realizes that the gangsters are simply people fighting to survive, and her feelings begin to change, adding interest to the story.
The question of what choices Siyul will make within the world of gangsters provokes curiosity. Also striking is Mudeok's desire to recruit Siyul into his faction in hopes of changing his fortunes. Mudeok, who was always looked down on by other gangsters and struggled to secure his position, may undergo a transformation because of Siyul, which raises further expectations.
Also, a still showing Siyul and Choi Eun facing each other with expressions that suggest they cannot understand one another piques interest in whether their connection will be fate or Karma. Choi Eun, who wants to lead the merchants' guild legitimately without being controlled by the gangsters who govern order on the Gyeonggang River, and Siyul, who has become part of that gangster world, make readers want to see how they will clash.
Finally, the relationship between Siyul and Jeongcheon draws attention. A gangster and a top-ranking government official who passed the state exam — two people who seemingly do not belong together — are captured looking at each other with longing, sparking curiosity about what past they might share. Meanwhile, Jeongcheon's resolute stance as he aims a blade at someone raises questions about the new phase he will face.
In this way, the meeting of these people amid chaotic currents heightens anticipation for whether they will be swept up in the murky stream or create a new flow, sharply increasing expectations for the upcoming narrative.
The Murky Stream is an action drama about people who dreamed different dreams to upend a corrupt world and live with dignity around the Gyeonggang River, where all of Joseon's money and goods converge. Beginning with the release of episodes 1–3 on the 26th, two episodes will be released weekly, for a total of nine episodes.
