Artist Junny was selected as a Spotify RADAR KOREA artist and revealed an honest music philosophy.
On the 8th via fashion magazine Vogue's official SNS and on the 9th via global audio and music streaming platform Spotify's official SNS and YouTube channel, content featuring the new "RADAR KOREA" artist Junny was released, drawing interest from music fans.
In a photo shoot conducted as a joint project between Vogue Korea and Spotify RADAR KOREA, Junny showcased sensuous visuals using various lighting. As an R&B singer-songwriter, he visually realized his own unique musical world and proved his diverse appeal as an artist.
In the main RADAR KOREA artist video released through Spotify, listeners can hear a deeper story from Junny. In an interview, Junny recalled his childhood, saying "Fortunately, there was always music playing at my home, and I always danced and sang. In middle school I saved my allowance and bought an iPod. Back then I learned how to assemble an album by adding artwork to the songs of artists I really liked and even arranging the order."
Junny said he began expressing himself through R&B music starting with singing 'Let Me Love You' at a singing contest for his first love, saying "I remember burning CDs of the songs I wrote in middle school and giving them as gifts to friends I liked. My life seemed entirely connected to music." He also expressed special affection for his dog Rio, saying "When we're together I don't feel anxious. He always accompanies me when I work, and when it's a good song he signals with his eyes."
If his first full-length album blanc captured a boy's image, this second full-length album null is an album that expresses honest feelings as a mature man. Junny described the title track "Energy" as "a song that shows growth musically and personally."
In particular, the 11th track "Weight of time" has an impressive running time of about 8 minutes. Junny said, "I only wanted to perfectly capture my emotional expression. I divided the song into Act 1, 2, 3 and 4 to give it the feeling of another album within my album," adding, "It took the most work and involved a lot of thought."
In this album Junny also took on new attempts, saying "I am happiest when I am working. I'm an artist who enjoys researching and creating. Being faithful to the music and its essence that allow me to exist as an artist seems to be who I am. Music is like a friend." He added, "I hope my music can give people positive moments beside them like a good friend."
Launched in 2020, Spotify's RADAR is a global rising artist support program that selects artists gaining attention in each region and expands their touchpoints with listeners worldwide. Junny achieved a meaningful result by being selected as a RADAR KOREA artist as a domestic male solo artist coinciding with the release of his second full-length album null.
Null consists of 12 new songs written and composed by Junny and has received steady praise since its release. It has won acclaim from music fans, including a surge in Spotify listeners and placing in the top 10 on Apple Music's K-pop charts in six regions and iTunes K-pop charts in seven regions.
Junny plans to launch activities for null in earnest with a European tour starting later this year and various global stages.
