"2025 Hanil King of Singers" singer Lyn breaks down in uncontrollable sobs while watching the first round of the main competition, leaving the venue stunned.
The first episode of MBN's commemorative special for the 60th anniversary of Korea-Japan diplomatic relations, "2025 Hanil King of Singers," which aired on the 2nd, recorded a peak rating of 5.6% and claimed the top spot among variety programs broadcast on Tuesday across terrestrial, general programming, and cable channels from the first episode, proving the scale befitting the world's only international music competition.
In the second episode of "2025 Hanil King of Singers," which airs today (9th) at 9:50 p.m., the preliminaries conclude with the performances of Park Seo-jin–Yudai and Enoch–Takuya, and the main competition's first round, conducted as best two of three, begins. In particular, the "main first round" raises tension by being an "improvised selection" in which each team holds a strategy meeting just before going on stage and instantly decides who will be their matchup performers.
Meanwhile, Lyn, who served on the Korean celebrity judging panel, sheds endless tears during Shin Seung-tae's performance of Lee Eun-mi's "Nocturne." Lee Eun-mi's "Nocturne" is a song about a final meeting and goodbye with a lover who cannot remain together, and is one of the signature songs of "barefoot diva" Lee Eun-mi. Upon hearing Shin Seung-tae's song choice, Lyn said, "Everything has been said," expressing expectation, and when she heard Shin Seung-tae's voice, which struck the heart from the first phrase and caused a breathtaking thrill, she choked up and wiped away the endless tears. Immediately after Shin Seung-tae's performance, while the Korean and Japanese celebrity panels rose in spontaneous standing ovation, Lyn, still unable to stand and sobbing, told MC Shin Dong-yup when asked why she was crying, "It was because of the lyric 'Don't apologize. You did nothing wrong,'" and added, "The faces of people I thought I owed an apology to in my life flashed before me," bursting into fresh tears. Embarrassed by her unceasing tears, Lyn apologized to those around her, saying "I'm sorry," and her reaction moved even those on stage, including Shin Seung-tae and the celebrity judges, to tears, touching the venue.
Meanwhile, Japan's celebrity judge Jibra exclaimed "What is this?" at the end of Shin Seung-tae's "Nocturne" performance and praised it, saying, "I was so moved I didn't have time to look at the lyrics, but I fully understood the content. It completely melted my heart." Whether Shin Seung-tae, who brought out his trump card, can add a win to Korea's score in the main first round remains to be seen.
