The representative of the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (hereafter Gaseyeon), Kim Se-eui, who was sued by YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jeong-won) on charges including stalking and defamation, was referred to the prosecution.
On the 9th, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station said it sent Kim to the prosecution without detention on charges including violation of the Stalking Punishment Act, defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, and threats.
Last July, Kim came under fire by releasing a recording on the Gaseyeon YouTube channel suggesting that Tzuyang had been threatened by YouTuber Guje-yeok. In the video, Kim mentioned Tzuyang's past work at entertainment establishments and claimed she was threatened using that fact as leverage.
In response, Tzuyang explained that it was something she did temporarily because of assault and coercion by an ex-boyfriend, but Kim continued to claim the explanation was not true. Afterwards, Tzuyang filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police Station against Kim Se-eui on charges including defamation, violation of the Stalking Punishment Act, and threats.
The case was initially dismissed by the police this February due to insufficient evidence, but Tzuyang's side filed an objection with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, and the prosecution ordered supplementary investigation, bringing the case back to the surface.
Gangnam Police replaced the investigative team and reassigned the case to a different team, and in April Tzuyang's side appeared at the police for complainant questioning but stopped the questioning and went home claiming they were not being protected as victims.
Kim Tae-yeon, Tzuyang's legal representative, said that exploiting a public figure's private life to gain monetary revenue must stop and hoped the prosecution would promptly indict and the court would make a strict ruling.
Earlier, the court twice issued provisional orders directing Kim Se-eui to stop stalking behavior. Tzuyang's side maintains that Kim repeatedly mentioned and harassed Tzuyang dozens of times over several months.
The prosecution will review whether to indict based on the supplementary investigative materials provided by the police.
