Group WJSN member Dayoung rewrites her name and presence.
On the 9th, Dayoung released her first digital single gonna love me, right? (고나 럽 미, 롸잇?) and the title track body (바디) music video on various music platforms.
Dayoung, who debuted with WJSN in February 2016, stood out even within WJSN, which was loved for its mysterious and dreamy concept. With a distinctive vocal color and stable vocals, she not only maximized the charm of WJSN songs but, based on solid vocalization and a wide vocal range, she handled vocals as well as rap and performance, showcasing her own charm across various genres.
Uncontainable talent, presence and tension earned Dayoung the nickname "human vitamin." Within WJSN, Dayoung's high energy and bouncy charm stood out most notably in the unit WJSN Chocome. With her characteristic cheerfulness commanding the stage, Dayoung delivered feel-good energy and became everyone's "vitamin."
When debuting as a solo singer, artists typically choose an image familiar to the public or opt for a striking transformation into a completely different image. Dayoung chose the latter, and that choice was possible because she is an all-arounder. It is her first digital single gonna love me, right? containing nine years of experience and Dayoung's unique energy.
gonna love me, right? was conceived by Dayoung, who designed the stories and emotions she wanted to convey across the album, from the music to the concept and the music video. Establishing the color and world unique to solo artist Dayoung, gonna love me, right? captures Dayoung's unadorned emotions and attitude without any character. It is buoyant and confident, while also frank and provocative. She stopped acting the "me" audiences might meet on stage and put her own story in the spotlight.
gonna love me, right? is Dayoung's first solo album and a work that opens a new chapter for artist Dayoung. If there were various "Dayoungs" as part of WJSN, WJSN Chocome, on stage and on variety shows, this time it captures the real "Dayoung."
The title track body is a song that comprehensively depicts the strong attraction and ecstatic feelings at the start of love, film-like excitement and longing. The intuitive keyword "body" repeats and drives a confident mood and rhythmic sensibility. Dayoung's refreshing vocals and the rhythmic development combine to complete an energetic dance track that fits summer perfectly.
Throughout the song there is a rhythmic feel like the heat of a summer night. The groove created by punchy beats and an addictive hook carries a message beyond simple dance, and through it the song talks about conveying feelings silently on stage. Rather than dramatic love, it contains content that unapologetically expresses the feelings and attraction felt in the moment, completing an honest, confident and provocative attitude.
The jointly released music video captures Dayoung's free movement in light and silhouettes under the hot sun of Los Angeles, U.S. As it contains the transformation from "human vitamin" Dayoung to "solo artist" Dayoung, it conveys the message she wants to share and the image she wants to show as a solo artist.
Dayoung's first digital single includes the title track body as well as number one rockstar (넘버원 록스타) and marry me (메리 미). number one rockstar projects Dayoung's confidence dreaming of center stage onto a rockstar persona; rocking guitar riffs, catchy hooks and a straightforward melody combine to convey both longing for the stage and certainty. marry me is a song Dayoung co-wrote the lyrics for, and its witty lyrics, intense rhythm and brass points harmonize to showcase a wit that turns the emotional line of romance on its head.
Dayoung put the moment of not becoming any character but becoming herself into gonna love me, right?. The time has begun for Dayoung to rewrite her name, from idol to artist.
