The Japanese wife shared her concerns, saying, "I can talk a lot to my husband, but it's difficult to converse with Koreans outside the house."
Seo Jang-hoon asked if he had a naturally shy personality, and the husband replied, "We are the eldest sons of a family with a long history. During holidays, there are more than 20 people gathered. Relatives always approach us, and when several people do that, it becomes hard to find the words to say."
The wife said, "My in-laws treat me well, so I want to meet their expectations, but I can't. I even cried in front of my husband. It's a bit difficult," expressing the emotional distress caused by the challenging communication. Seo Jang-hoon responded, "To say you want to meet expectations is a phrase that is hard for foreigners to use, even after studying in a language school for three years," as he praised her Korean skills.
Seo Jang-hoon advised the visitor, saying, "Have confidence. Your voice feels like it bounces off the listener's ears. It's a faint voice. If you speak clearly and loudly, your skills will not be a problem. Even if you feel shy while talking, think of it as training to improve your Korean. Keep engaging in small talk naturally."
