Seven months have passed since singer Koo Jun-yeob's wife and Taiwanese actress Shih Wei-yuan passed away, but rumors surrounding Shih Wei-yuan continue to thrive.
On the 7th, Taiwanese media ETtoday reported that some internet users have been spreading false information on Chinese social media and have insulted not only the deceased Shih Wei-yuan but also his legal representative, prompting the lawyer to issue an official statement.
The deceased's legal representative, lawyer Deng Gao-jing, stated on the 6th, "I have not been entrusted by Shih Wei-yuan's family; the case has already been adjudicated," asserting that these online claims are entirely false.
He clarified that Shih Wei-yuan had entrusted him with three lawsuits during her lifetime. These lawsuits include a defamation case against her former mother-in-law Zhang Ran and TikTok, an online copyright infringement suit against her former husband Wang Xiao-pei, and a criminal accusation (defamation) against Zhang Ran.
Lawyer Deng stated that in April, following Shih Wei-yuan's death, he received formal authorization from her husband Koo Jun-yeob and mother Huang Chun-mei to continue representing the "Zhang Ran and TikTok defamation case," and all related documents have been notarized and submitted to the Beijing Internet Court. In contrast, he no longer represents the case against Wang Xiao-pei, and the criminal accusation has been decided to not proceed by the bereaved family, and it is currently undergoing closure procedures in court.
Regarding rumors suggesting that "DNA and abortion evidence emerged during the trial," he strongly denied these claims, stating, "These are completely fabricated, and such evidence did not exist at all during the trial process."
He also noted that the Beijing Internet Court issued an order in August 2024, preventing Zhang Ran from mentioning aspects of Shih Wei-yuan's marriage, children, and health in an online context. However, as Zhang Ran did not comply, he applied for enforcement to the court in May of this year and is currently waiting for results.
At the end of the statement, lawyer Deng expressed deep condolences on behalf of the legal team for Shih Wei-yuan's tragic death and emphasized that "she was a good and brave woman, and her honor must be respected."
He strongly condemned all insults and slanders against the deceased and the legal representatives, stating that he would defend their rights by all possible means, including lawsuits and appeals to the Bar Association and the Judicial Bureau.
Meanwhile, Koo Jun-yeob and Shih Wei-yuan met in the 1990s and dated for about two years before parting ways. Shih Wei-yuan later married Chinese businessman Wang Xiao-pei in 2011, giving birth to a son and a daughter, but they faced divorce in 2021.
As a result, Koo Jun-yeob reached out to Shih Wei-yuan, and they became a couple again, marrying in 2022 and drawing attention. However, on February 2, Shih Wei-yuan tragically passed away during a family trip to Japan due to influenza accompanied by pneumonia. Koo Jun-yeob is said to still visit Shih Wei-yuan's resting place in Jinbo Mountain Cemetery in Taiwan daily.
