Broadcaster Dex has been cast as the male lead in the Korea-Japan co-production film 'The Haunted House,' overcoming controversies regarding his acting skills. Will his sincerity towards acting resonate this time?
The film 'The Haunted House' (directed by Cho Chang-geun / produced by Film Company Joa / co-produced by LKM Factory) is a gastronomic fantasy romance that portrays the warm consolidation of human relationships through life and death, loss and freedom, meeting and parting. The original work is a short story collection by the renowned Japanese author Banana Yoshimoto, known in Korea for her novels 'Kitchen' and 'The Lizard.'
In this work, Dex, along with Choo So-jung, Park Hae-rin, and Yoon Sung-bin have been cast in major roles. Dex, who debuted as an actor last year with 'Tarot,' takes on the role of the seemingly indifferent but warm-hearted male lead, Yoon Sung. WJSN leader Choo So-jung plays the role of Se-jung, a realistic and frank job seeker, while Park Hae-rin takes on the role of Joo-hyun, a leader-type character who drives the atmosphere. Former skeleton national team member Yoon Sung-bin will make his acting debut as Min-soo, Se-jung's past lover and pottery teacher.
What attracts the most attention is Dex. He made his acting debut in the ENA drama 'The Defects' as Jeong-hyun, the operator of an illegal adoption organization. Although he took on a cruel and cold character, some viewers remarked that "his empty gaze and awkward gait hindered immersion" and noted that "the awkwardness was evident even in his brief lines."
Previously, when asked if Dex had learned acting separately, he replied, "Not at all. I thought there was nothing I could do to make up for that. It was to actively do anything when I got to the set. I'm grateful that there were many action scenes. I couldn't let my shortcomings show. My strength is using my body, but I still lack in many areas as an actor. I can't be a burden," stating that he decided to participate because the character was taciturn.
With mixed reviews regarding his acting skills in his previous two works, there is heightened interest in whether Dex can transcend his limits and establish himself as a sincere actor through 'The Haunted House.' The film is planned as a global project and is scheduled to be released simultaneously in Korea and Japan in the second half of next year.
