SBS 'Three Perspectives' delves into the unavoidable fate of humanity, 'aging', through three perspectives.
The SBS program 'Three Perspectives', airing on the 7th at 8:35 a.m., starts with the heavy question, "Is aging fair to everyone?" To explore this, MC Kim Seok-hoon wears an 'elderly experience kit' to personally experience an aged body. While attempting to pick up cue cards from the floor while wearing tools that restrict his waist and knees, Kim Seok-hoon ultimately cannot straighten his back and shakes his head, saying, "My knees are really strained." Although it's just a simple experience, all the cast members feel, "Aging is truly frightening," as even small daily movements become burdensome.
Historian Jeong Jae-hwan connects this experience to history. The discovery of a small clay figurine by a farmer digging a well in Xiang village, China, led to the excavation of the 'Terracotta Army', showcasing Qin Shi Huang's obsession with immortality. After unifying the world at 39, Qin Shi Huang sought the 'elixir of life', ultimately consuming a mercury-laden tonic that led to his demise. This is the most dramatic example of humanity's obsession with defying aging.
Following this, 'Three Perspectives' highlights a figure known as the 'modern-day Qin Shi Huang', American entrepreneur Brian Johnson. Investing about 2.7 billion won in his body each year, he has garnered attention by reversing the biological ages of vital organs like the heart and lungs to that of someone in their 10s to 20s at the age of 47. The key management secret he chose is 'NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide)'. NMN, essential for cellular energy production, drastically decreases as one ages, and recent studies have shown it helps eliminate the substance 'beta-amyloid', which is a cause of dementia.
In relation to this, MC So Seul-ji surprises everyone by revealing the changes in blood values after personally consuming NMN for two weeks. Pain medicine specialist Lee Jae-cheol, after observing the test results, interprets, "The blood vessels have become clean and flexible" and notes, "Seul-ji's aging clock has slowed down," attracting attention. What changes occurred in So Seul-ji's values, which were on the borderline of danger? The 12th episode of SBS 'Three Perspectives' on 'Aging' will air on September 7, Sunday, at 8:35 a.m.
