The second season of 'The Detective's Chat' covers the case of serial killer Yoo Young-chul.
The seventh episode of E Channel's original web entertainment 'The Detective's Chat' season 2 (hereinafter 'The Detective's Chat 2'), which will be released on the YouTube channel 'The Detective's Chat' on the 5th, features detective Kang Yoon-seok alongside announcer Jo Woo-jong, who will guest star following the previous broadcast.
This day's broadcast is prepared as the third installment of the limited summer season corner 'Ghost Stories Told by Detectives.' In the early part of the show, Lee Yi-kyung introduces a ghost story based on a true story. A woman returning home late at night after finishing overtime work got into an APT. elevator with a man wearing a hat, and the man did not press any floor buttons, raising her curiosity.
When the woman who got off the elevator hurriedly tried to take out her keys, the man who followed her said, "Stay right there," and attempted to kill her with a hammer. He then said he would let her live because he was in a good mood and threatened her not to report it. A few days later, someone rang the doorbell at the woman's house, and a police officer holding an identification card asked if she had seen any suspicious persons as a serial murder case had occurred recently in the area. The woman, fearing retaliation, could not respond, and the police said, "Good job. Do that from now on," sending chills through everyone. The man in the elevator had impersonated a police officer.
The real case introduced along with the content of the ghost story on the show was also an incident involving police impersonation. In 2004, a man appeared in front of a street vendor selling illegal items at the Goblin Market in Hwanghak-dong, Seoul, showing a police identification card and claiming he would arrest him. Instead of a police car, he drove the street vendor's vehicle, kidnapped him, handcuffed him, and took him to his officetel. The man who committed the crime acted meticulously; he dreamed of becoming a police officer but, after being discouraged due to color vision deficiency, misused what he had learned in the crime.
This man, a repeat offender with 14 prior convictions who had also made his own murder tools, was reported to have played Vangelis' 'Conquest of Paradise,' which was used as the theme music for the movie '1492: Conquest of Paradise,' while dismembering the corpse, horrifying everyone. This man was none other than serial killer Yoo Young-chul.
The broadcast will reveal the truth behind the ghost stories that spread along with Yoo Young-chul's crimes, as well as his actual handwritten statements. Additionally, profiler Kwon Il-yong will present Yoo Young-chul's outrageous responses that defy common sense, and detective Kang Yoon-seok will share the story of having conflicts while meeting Yoo Young-chul. The behind-the-scenes of the Yoo Young-chul case, which shook Korea, along with the reality of the ghost stories will be revealed through 'The Detective's Chat 2.'
'The Detective's Chat 2' introduced AI dubbing starting from the third episode in response to the global popularity of the true crime genre, which covers actual crime cases. Dubbing is currently performed in four languages: English, Spanish, Japanese, and Vietnamese. As plans are in place for full episode dubbing, global viewers will also be able to easily watch 'The Detective's Chat 2,' which attempts to expand the IP globally.
