Born in July 1934, Giorgio Armani originally dreamed of becoming a doctor but got his start in fashion working as a window dresser at a Milan department store. In 1975, with his business partner and friend Sergio Galeotti, he founded a men's ready-to-wear label by selling their Volkswagen for $10,000, and the women's line was introduced a year later.
According to 2023 data, the Armani empire has grown into a large corporation employing over 9,000 people. Half of the management is made up of women, and it operates in seven industrial hubs around the world with more than 600 stores.
