Lim Hyun-sik's digital single "My Answer," released on the 22nd of last month, has been selected for a special award at the JIMFF Special Choice-Music Video Awards during the 21st Jecheon International Music and Film Festival, which runs from the 4th to the 9th in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province.
The Jecheon International Music and Film Festival, launched in 2005, is Asia's largest music film festival, introducing excellent music films from around the world and leading the popularization and genre formation of music films. This year, the festival established the "JIMFF Special Choice-Music Video Awards" to highlight the artistic potential of the music video genre.
"My Answer" is a song that honestly and simply expresses various feelings conveyed through eye contact within the emotion of love, including the slowly creeping worries and anxieties behind excitement and happiness. The music video for "My Answer," in which Lim Hyun-sik grants, depicts a man left alone in ruins reminiscing about his past with a beloved and shows moments of accepting reality with a sensual direction, garnering a warm response from global fans.
Following his previous work, Lim Hyun-sik is collaborating again with director Kwon Jin-mo for his second mini-album, "The Young Man and the Deep Sea," with the title track "Lonely Sea (La Mar)". The music video shooting attracted attention as it was selected for the Korean Competition feature category at the 20th Jecheon International Music and Film Festival last year. Lim Hyun-sik also attended the 2025 International Marine Film Festival as an actor in June with that work.
Having the opportunity to work with the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival for two consecutive years with his self-composed song "My Answer," Lim Hyun-sik will attend the "Music Video Awards" event on the 5th to present a special performance. He also plans to introduce the music video through a GV (Guest Visit) and communicate with the audience up close.
The following is a Q&A regarding Lim Hyun-sik's special award at the 21st Jecheon International Music and Film Festival Music Video Awards.
Q. How do you feel about attending the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival for the second consecutive year?
A. As someone who loves music, video, and film, it is a great honor to attend the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival for two consecutive years. I would like to continue having good relationships.
Q. You have become the winner of the special award for the newly established "Music Video Awards" this year. How did you feel when you heard the news?
A. I think it's great that the "Music Video Awards" has been established at the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival. I am sincerely honored and thankful to receive a big award as soon as it was established.
Q. Please introduce the music video for "My Answer."
A. It tells the story of me, staying lonely in a gray ruin, facing beautiful moments with the person I love through a door, but ultimately closing the door and ending the cycle of time.
Q. After your previous work "Lonely Sea," you worked with director Kwon Jin-mo again. What did you discuss?
A. We both thought that "eye acting would be important."
Q. You are also about to meet with the audience through the GV event. How are you preparing for it?
A. This time, since it is a music video GV, I think the atmosphere will definitely be different from before. It will be a unique experience, and I am excited to meet fans again after a long time.
Q. What emotions did you want to convey through the music video, and were there any focal points or difficulties while acting?
A. I wanted to express the happiness of beautiful love and the contrasting worries and anxious feelings simultaneously through my eyes. I tried to concentrate and manage my emotions, but it was so difficult that I remember having the humorous thought, "Would it have been easier to express if my eyes were a little bigger?"
Q. Was there any special episode or memorable moment during the music video shooting?
A. During the shooting of the "Lonely Sea" music video, I got completely soaked, but this time there was a scene where only my feet got a little wet in an old swimming pool, which I found cute. Also, the indoor studio where I shot is where I filmed my first solo song "Swimming," so I was able to start off feeling good.
Q. The detailed emotional eye acting has received a warm response from global fans. Are you considering challenging yourself to act in a serious drama?
A. For now, I prioritize wanting to grow more musically, but because I really love movies, I would like to challenge myself someday if I get the opportunity.
Q. Starting from your activities with the reliable group BTOB, you have also showcased your talents as a versatile singer-songwriter and actor. Are there any new fields you want to challenge yourself in the future?
A. Now that I have the title of a filmmaker, I definitely want to challenge myself in film music someday. I still have a lot to improve, but I want to express movies through music by continuously growing.
