Actress Yeom Hye-ran sat down with Son Seok-hee to convey her honest feelings and sincerity about acting.
In the program 'Son Seok-hee's Questions' aired on the 3rd, Yeom Hye-ran, who left a deep impression as the character Kwang-rye in the Netflix hit 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' appeared. She revealed, "I rejected casting calls for more than a month. I thought I wasn't qualified. I just kept asking, 'Me? Where from?'" while explaining why she hesitated to appear.
Son Seok-hee asked, "Is there a reason you don't often appear on shows that reveal yourself?" Yeom Hye-ran replied, "I feel nervous when acting, but standing in front of the camera as the ordinary Yeom Hye-ran is even more nerve-wracking. I make many mistakes, and I feel unnatural when I monitor. The camera is too noticeable," she said with a shy smile.
Son Seok-hee praised, "I feel sorry for IU, but she should receive the leading actress award, not the supporting actress award, for 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.'" Actor Jung Hae-kyun also stated in a video interview, "If it weren't for Yeom Hye-ran, the work wouldn't have gained its strength," evaluating it as a 'masterstroke.'
Although she received numerous advertising calls after her role as Kwang-rye, Yeom Hye-ran stated she declined most of them. She explained, "Not many came in. I appreciate the offers, but I wanted to leave a lasting impression. It was such a precious character that I didn't want it overshadowed by anything else."
She also expressed affection for her co-star Oh Jung-se. Yeom Hye-ran recalled, "I first met him in 'When the Camellia Blooms,' and although we're the same age, I received a lot of help from him as a senior. Even if I'm not satisfied, I thought maybe Oh Jung-se would speak for me when we cut, and he looked after me." Oh Jung-se also shared, "The Yeom Hye-ran I saw 20 years ago on stage has stayed with me. Even on the set of 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' I was impressed by her commitment to the basics," and added, "She is a perfect actress, and personally, she gives off a motherly warmth."
Finally, Son Seok-hee remarked, "People ask Yeom Hye-ran, 'Isn't this your golden time?' but I won't ask that. She acts as if she lives only for today," and he gave her a round of applause.
