The 8 luxury supporting characters that will shine in the new daily drama 'Mari and the Unusual Dads' have been revealed.
Set to premiere on KBS 1TV in October, the new daily drama 'Mari and the Unusual Dads' (directed by Seo Yong-soo, written by Kim Hong-joo) follows Mari's comical search for her dad! It depicts the birth of an unusual family that is thicker than blood and more persistent than sperm.
Today (4th), the production team of 'Mari and the Unusual Dads' revealed the solid supporting cast featuring veteran actors such as Ha Seung-ri, Hyun-woo, Park Eun-hye, Ryu-jin, Hwang Dong-joo, and Gong Jeong-hwan, along with younger actors like Jung Ae-ri, Geum Bo-ra, Kang Shin-il, Park Hyun-jung, Jo Hyang-ki, Yoon Mi-hyang, Kim Young-jae, and Lee Ji-yeon.
First, Jung Ae-ri will appear as Eom Gi-bun, who knows the secret of Kang Mari (played by Ha Seung-ri). She is the director of the prestigious Eom Hospital and is ambitious about establishing a sperm center. She believes she was trapped in Mari's house because of a mistake from the past, and as that mistake comes close to being revealed, she becomes anxious.
Geum Bo-ra will play Mari's cute grandmother, Yoon Sun-ae. Sun-ae's witty remarks leave no one unscathed, but behind her sharp tongue lies love for her granddaughter Mari and her daughter Shira (played by Park Eun-hye). She forms a romance in her old age while entangled with a man who suddenly appeared in the back room where she urgently needed money.
Kang Shin-il plays Lee Ok-soon, the father of Kang Se (played by Hyun-woo) and Pung-joo (played by Ryu-jin). Ok-soon is a typical father who wishes for his family's happiness. If there's anything a bit unusual, it's his greater desire for his eldest son Pung-joo's marriage than others. Faced with a son who has no intention of marrying, he decides to leave home and, by chance, gets involved with Mari's family.
Next, Park Hyun-jung appears as Mun Sook-hee, Shira's friend who has a crush on Pung-joo. She works as the financial director at Eom Hospital, and when Pung-joo returns to Korea after 15 years, she dreams of love once more and pursues him. However, her childhood friend Shira also has her eyes on Pung-joo, creating a rift in their friendship.
Jo Hyang-ki will perform as Yoon Eon-kyung, the daughter of Eom Gi-bun. Eon-kyung is Gi-bun's only daughter, and although she is middle-aged, she still displays childishness and jealousy. However, her love for her family is always sincere. As her husband changes and her irritating cousin Shira causes her distress, a significant event disrupts her life.
Eom Gi-bun's loyal secretary, Kim Mi-kyung, is played by Yoon Mi-hyang. She handles tasks with a calm demeanor as she has been in tune with Gi-bun for a long time.
Kim Young-jae takes on the role of Pyun Do-gi, a third-year resident working at Eom Hospital. He is prickly inside and out, resembling a tough scrubbing pad, and has a notorious reputation as an advisor at the hospital. However, someone comes along who doesn't let him intimidate her, bringing change to his daily life.
Lee Ji-yeon appears as An Su-seon, Mari's best friend. Self-proclaimed as Mari's guardian angel and referred to as a nurse, she operates a YouTube channel while living a vibrant life, but she begins to feel new emotions when she encounters Do-gi, a man who constantly challenges her.
With the joining of Jung Ae-ri, Geum Bo-ra, Kang Shin-il, Park Hyun-jung, Jo Hyang-ki, and Yoon Mi-hyang, who will provide weight to the drama, along with Kim Young-jae and Lee Ji-yeon, who will bring energy, interest in 'Mari and the Unusual Dads' is further amplified. As many characters appear, the stories of the supporting cast are expected to be a notable point of observation, enriching the drama.
'Mari and the Unusual Dads' is a collaboration between director Seo Yong-soo, known for his delicate directing skills in works such as the drama special 2023 'Do-hyun's Confession' and 'Overlapping Knife, Knife,' and writer Kim Hong-joo, who has showcased a smooth writing style in human dramas like 'Even If You Hate, I Love' and 'High School Classmates.'
Meanwhile, 'Mari and the Unusual Dads' will air its first episode in October as the follow-up to 'Catch Your Luck.'
