The recent status of actor Yoo Ah-in, who received a suspended sentence due to drug use charges, was captured in an unexpected place.
Recently, DJ and producer Peggy Gu posted several photos on her social media story along with a short message saying, "Fav director! Love you, Director Bong!" featuring director Bong Joon-ho and acquaintances. The photos that were released drew attention as they showed Yoo Ah-in smiling beside Director Bong while wearing a black hat.
However, the photo soon disappeared from the account. Some internet users raised suspicions that Yoo Ah-in's presence was intentionally deleted, but it was reported to be due to the story feature's characteristic of automatic deletion after 24 hours. However, the already captured photos spread through online communities and social media, making "Yoo Ah-in's recent status" a hot topic.
It has been about two months since Yoo Ah-in was captured outside of an official event. Previously, Yoo Ah-in was charged and brought to trial for allegedly habitually using propofol over 180 times under the pretext of cosmetic procedures at hospitals in the Seoul area from September 2020 to March 2022. Additional charges were brought for illegally obtaining sleeping pills in someone else's name and for smoking marijuana while staying in the United States.
Subsequently, in July, the Supreme Court confirmed a sentence of one year in prison, two years of suspended sentence, and a fine of 2 million won for Yoo Ah-in, who was charged with violations of the Narcotics Control Act, marijuana smoking, and other offenses. He was detained during the first trial but was released after being sentenced to probation on appeal. The court took into consideration that Yoo had suffered from sleep disorders and depression and that he had already spent five months in detention.
Currently, interest is focused on the public release of the works he has appeared in. The Netflix series "The Fool's End" was released with minimal footage of Yoo Ah-in, while the films "Victory" and "High Five" were released in March and May without edits, respectively. However, his future activity plans remain unclear.
Nevertheless, with this exposure of recent status, public attention is once again on his future actions. Internet users reacted by saying, "I thought it was deleted, but it was just the story expired, haha! It's actually becoming more of a topic," "Yoo Ah-in is still Yoo Ah-in, even with his face covered by a hat," and "I wonder if the attention might still be uncomfortable. It might be better for him to stay quiet."
