Kwak Do-won's return has been canceled.
On the 4th, the theater company Twitmaru and the National Theater announced the casting changes for the play 'A Streetcar Named Desire,' which will be held on October 9th and 10th at the National Theater Daloreum Theater.
According to this, Song Sun-mi, who was cast as Blanche, has been replaced by Bang Eun-hee, and Kwak Do-won, who was cast as Stanley, will now be played by Lee Se-chang and Kang Eun-tak. The roles of Stella, originally played by Oh Jung-yeon and Kim Se-ram, have been changed to Seo Ji-yu and Kim Se-ram, while Bae Gi-seong's role as Mitch has been altered to Park Hyung-jun.
Kwak Do-won was supposed to play the role of 'Stanley,' which is described as the embodiment of desire and violence in the play. The theater company and the National Theater explained, "The casting has changed due to circumstances on the part of the production company."
'A Streetcar Named Desire' was published in 1974 and earned Tennessee Williams both the New York Drama Critics Circle Award and the Pulitzer Prize, elevating him to the status of a major American playwright. The work, which depicts conflicts between human desires and frustrations, hope and reality, received critical acclaim.
Previously, Kwak Do-won, who announced his participation in the play, was charged with driving under the influence in September 2022. At that time, his blood alcohol concentration was reported to be 0.158%, exceeding the license suspension threshold of 0.08%. Subsequently, Kwak Do-won received a summary order to pay a fine of 10 million won and halted his entertainment activities.
In the film 'Firefighter,' which was released in December of last year, Kwak Do-won appeared without any edits, but he did not participate in any promotions for the work.
