HYBE and Geffen Records' global girl group KATSEYE will grace the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMA) Pre-Show in the United States.
On Dec. 2 (local time), 'MTV VMA' announced via official social media that KATSEYE will be this year's Pre-Show performer. The Pre-Show will take place on the 7th at 7 p.m. at the USB Arena in New York, where KATSEYE is expected to perform hits like 'Gabriela' and 'Gnarly.'
The Pre-Show is a stage that unfolds before the main event of the 'MTV VMA.' Numerous pop stars, including Sabrina Carpenter, Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna, have gone through this stage in their rookie years. KATSEYE, just over a year after their debut, will step onto this iconic stage, showcasing their status as 'next-generation pop icons.'
'MTV VMA' is considered one of the four major music awards in the United States, alongside the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards. Currently, KATSEYE has been nominated for two categories: 'Best Group' and 'PUSH Performance of the Year.' Their presence, rapidly expanding influence in the global music market, is noteworthy regardless of the award outcome.
'PUSH Performance of the Year' is an award given to the team (artist) that has delivered the most impressive performance among the artists selected for MTV's monthly 'PUSH campaign', and KATSEYE became the star of this campaign last January with their debut album's title track 'Touch.'
'Best Group' is awarded to the artist showing the most outstanding activities and popularity of the year. This year's nominees for this category include renowned domestic and international artists like Coldplay, My Chemical Romance, Backstreet Boys, Jonas Brothers, and SEVENTEEN, attracting significant attention.
Meanwhile, KATSEYE is a group working to realize the 'globalization of the K-pop system' led by HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk. They were selected through a global audition project 'Dream Academy', which attracted 120,000 applicants worldwide, and debuted in the United States in June last year based on the T&D (Training & Development) system of HYBE America.
Their growth is rapid. KATSEYE's second EP 'BEAUTIFUL CHAOS' reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 (as of July 12), and the tracks 'Gabriela' and 'Gnarly' have both entered the main song chart 'Hot 100.' Their popularity has reignited following appearances at 'Lollapalooza Chicago' and 'Summer Sonic 2025', with various charts showing peak rankings.
