Gong Myoung expressed his thoughts on youth dramas shown in his 30s.
On the 3rd, an interview with Gong Myoung for the Netflix film "Love Untangled" took place at a cafe in Seoul's Sogyeok-dong.
"Love Untangled" is a youth romance unfolding in 1998, where a nineteen-year-old girl named Park Se-ri plans a strategy to straighten her lifelong complex of frizzed hair before her once-in-a-lifetime confession and becomes involved with a transfer student named Han Yoon-seok.
Gong Myoung, who played the transfer student Han Yoon-seok from Seoul, laughed and said about the youth drama he took on in his 30s, "As an actor named Gong Myoung, I thought, 'When will I be able to do such a refreshing and harmless student film in my 30s?' and I thought, 'I definitely have to do this.'"
He continued, "I saw on Instagram during the production report that someone said I looked 'like a student teacher.' So when that question came, I was a little surprised. Anyway, I didn't think much of it. Rather than wondering why they gave this role to someone in their 30s, I felt grateful that people still see me that way. So I didn't want to miss this opportunity even more."
He also noted, "I was a bit worried about those reactions since many of my co-stars were in their early 20s. I was concerned about how that might be perceived. However, I made considerable efforts, including taking care of myself, doing treatments, and trying to lose weight. One compliment that stuck with me from the set was from the art team, who said, 'Who says Gong Myoung is in his 30s!' That memory continues to linger."
