Actress Lee Young-ae is drawing attention after making a thoughtful comment regarding youth on the YouTube drinking entertainment show 'Zzanbro'.
In the preview released on the 1st for the YouTube channel 'Zzanbro Shin Dong-yeob', Lee Young-ae, Park Yong-woo, and Kim Young-kwang, the leads of KBS 2TV's new weekend drama Walking On Thin Ice, appeared as guests.
During the broadcast, Shin Dong-yeob mentioned the brand that Lee Young-ae had previously modeled for, and Jung Ho-cheol parodied it, eliciting laughter. In particular, it garnered interest when it was revealed that Lee Young-ae was the first female model for soju.
However, as the atmosphere grew more relaxed, Lee Young-ae expressed her honest thoughts, saying, "I am worried that my children might watch this broadcast today and think, 'Should I try drinking too?'" She added, "The subtitles on 'Zzanbro' must include a warning stating, 'Please do not drink or overdrink, youth,'" catching attention. In response, Shin Dong-yeob joked, "If you put it that way, our kids should be in a juvenile detention center by now," while Kim Young-kwang added, "Aren't you playing a role selling drugs in a drama?" which led to laughter in the studio.
Lee Young-ae's remarks go beyond mere jokes and touch upon recent social controversies. In fact, the government revised the 'media alcohol scene guidelines to prevent the spread of drinking culture' just in 2023, expanding the scope of regulation to include online content such as OTT and YouTube. As a result, subtitles stating, 'Excessive drinking can lead to strokes, memory impairment, or dementia,' and 'Drinking during pregnancy increases the risk of giving birth to deformed babies' were inserted into Zzanbro, drawing attention.
This change is interpreted as a response to ongoing social concerns surrounding typical 'drinking broadcast' content. Previously, YouTube saw a surge of various drinking entertainment shows like Lee Young-ji's 'Although I have nothing but the mouse, Kian84's 'Drinking Interview', and Soyou's 'Honjeo Oops Oyu', gaining popularity. Despite the advantage of viewing honest and fresh sides of stars, some viewers have raised concerns that it overly romanticizes drinking.
Lee Young-ae's comments are receiving increased attention amid this controversy. Netizens have responded positively, saying, "As expected of Lee Young-ae, I was moved by her sincere remarks," "It was a dignified statement from a senior in the entertainment industry," and "As a parent raising children, it is advice you can't help but relate to."
