Singer Gina opened her social media again after about a year, sharing her heartfelt thoughts.
On Aug. 28, Gina shared recent photos on her Instagram with a short message saying, "Hello, it's been awhile." The photo was a selfie taken towards the camera, and she welcomed followers by saying, "It's been a long time." This was her first update in 11 months since she posted a photo with a sense of unease along with the message, "Goodbye, world," in September last year. This naturally led to speculation about a change in her mindset and a possible signal of her return.
On Sept. 2, she broke her silence by posting a lengthy message in English. Gina noted, "I have lived quietly for years" and that she experienced something that deeply changed her life while working in the entertainment industry. She added, "The most painful part was not that event but the silence. I did not disappear to hide; I disappeared to survive."
Previously, Gina debuted in 2010 with the digital single 'Things I Want to Do When I Have a Boyfriend' and gained immense popularity with hit songs such as 'Go Away,' 'Black & White,' and 'Top Girl.' She also established herself as a 'sexy icon' after appearing in 2PM's music video for '10 out of 10.' However, she halted her activities in 2016 after being fined for violating laws related to prostitution and moved to Canada, effectively disappearing from the Korean entertainment industry.
Following that, she intermittently communicated her recent updates through social media. In 2017, she announced she was "preparing for a new beginning," and in 2020, she shared her leisurely life while celebrating her 10th debut anniversary in Vancouver, Canada. However, each time prompted mixed reactions of support as well as calls for her to reflect on her past wrongdoings.
In the meantime, she emphasized through her personal social media, "I am no longer a girl trembling with fear. I am not defined by the past but by my current choices. I have healed, grown, and am reclaiming my voice. I am not trying to repeat old wounds but am moving forward with honesty and love." Finally, she expressed her deep gratitude to the fans who believed in her until the end, stating, "I understand those who have left. To those who remain silent in shame, your story is not over."
With this SNS reopening and her first heartfelt confession, there is growing interest in whether Gina is indeed considering a return to her activities.
