Actress Kang Hae-rim is attending the Busan International Film Festival with "Mia."
On the 2nd, her agency, Andmark, announced that Kang Hae-rim has been confirmed to star in the new movie "Mia," which will make its debut at the 30th Busan International Film Festival's Korean Cinema Today-Panorama section.
"Mia" is a chilling and sad clash drama in which a hospital's administrative department staff member, 'Se-rim,' who is economically on the edge, faces the perpetrator 'Sumi,' involved in the death of her twin sister, and devises an even more brutal plan than revenge.
Kang Hae-rim will take on the role of 'Wi Se-rim,' who struggles with debt and endures day by day, aiming to portray the complex inner world of a character caught in extreme circumstances realistically. Having shown her unique color through Netflix's "Somebody" and the movie "Lobby," Kang Hae-rim will meet the public with an even more intense presence in this work.
The direction is handled by director Yoo Jong-seok, who gained attention in the film industry for his short film "Setting Fire at Two in the Morning," which won the Short Film Award at the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Awards. His first feature film, "Mia," is expected to meticulously capture the moments where desire and despair collide.
Andmark Studio, responsible for production, has produced popular and critically acclaimed works such as Netflix's film "Seoul National Operation," drama "Woojwi Queen," and the movie "Soulmate," establishing itself as a promising studio that will lead the next-generation K-content market. This work has been co-produced with Ascendio and Tribe Soul.
In particular, Kang Hae-rim was embroiled in romance rumors with senior actor Lee Dong-gun last May. At that time, her agency stated, "We cannot confirm as it is the actress's personal life," but the lack of denial led to an interpretation of implicit acknowledgment. This attracted even more attention due to the 16-year age difference between 1980-born Lee Dong-gun and 1996-born Kang Hae-rim. Expectations are rising over whether Kang Hae-rim will receive favorable reviews for her acting that transcends the rumor through "Mia."
"Mia" is set to be released domestically following its premiere at the Busan International Film Festival.
