Three days before its first broadcast, TV CHOSUN's new weekend miniseries 'Confidence Man KR' will feature special appearances by Song Ji-hyo, Hyun Bong-sik, and Lee Bong-ryeon.
The new weekend miniseries 'Confidence Man KR', which will air for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 6, is a 'K-caper' directed by Nam Gi-hoon and written by Hong Seung-hyun and Kim Da-hye. It follows three con artists with versatile skills seeking revenge against the villains of this era.
'Confidence Man KR,' a new sensation 'K-caper' drama, is gaining attention, featuring the versatile director Nam Gi-hoon, known for his work in 'Casino,' 'Kiss Sixth Sense,' 'Oh My Baby,' and 'Voice 3,' along with the brilliant writer Hong Seung-hyun, celebrated for 'Criminal Minds' and 'Chorong 1, 2,' and Kim Da-hye, who possesses solid writing skills and outstanding imagination. Moreover, the combination of Park Min-young, Park Hee-soon, and Joo Jong-hyuk, who have star quality and acting skills while receiving endless love from viewers, has made this one of the most anticipated dramas of the latter half of 2025.
In connection with this, the rising acting stars Song Ji-hyo, Hyun Bong-sik, and Lee Bong-ryeon, known for their three-dimensional performances, will make special appearances in episodes 1 and 2 of 'Confidence Man KR,' drawing attention. Song Ji-hyo will play the role of a fortune teller named Baek-hwa who targets the desperate individuals due to her overwhelming greed, Hyun Bong-sik will take on the role of a transporter representative of strong but weak actions, and Lee Bong-ryeon will embody a mother named Yesolmo, who only thinks of her daughter Yesol despite running a tteokbokki restaurant under tight financial conditions, properly opening the door to 'special taste spots.'
Firstly, Song Ji-hyo, who transforms into the fortune teller Baek-hwa, injects vitality into the early scenes with her strong charisma. She completes Baek-hwa's forceful style with deep red lips, sharp eyeliner, and a low bun, delivering a charismatic performance while smoothly delivering her bold lines.
Hyun Bong-sik, who plays the transporter role, breaks away from his recent lovely image, heightening tension with his intimidating performance. He adds points with a flashy patterned shirt and shiny gold bracelets, while glaring with a sharp gaze at the large knife he holds in one hand, evoking the threat embodied by underworld figures.
Lastly, Lee Bong-ryeon, who has often showcased friendly acting, heightens immersion with her heavy everyday performance as Yesolmo. She delicately expresses Yesolmo's feelings of worry, who must care for both work and her child's education, with a near-bare face makeup and plain clothing, using a calm tone and a shadowed expression.
'Confidence Man KR' is significant because it is structured in an episodic format, making the special appearances exceptionally important. The production team, troubled by finding actors suitable for the character, actively called for Song Ji-hyo, who said, "The character Baek-hwa being a shaman particularly resonated with me. I was pleased to greet viewers as such an intense character after a long time," leaving meaningful thoughts about her participation.
Hyun Bong-sik and Lee Bong-ryeon, who previously collaborated with director Nam Gi-hoon in 'This Love is Uncontrollable', gladly accepted the casting offer, delivering memorable performances that leave a mark. Lee Bong-ryeon expressed, "Due to my connection with director Nam Gi-hoon from 'This Love is Uncontrollable,' I was honored to have the chance to make a special appearance in the much-anticipated work 'Confidence Man KR' for the second half of 2025. The production team stated, "Song Ji-hyo, Hyun Bong-sik, and Lee Bong-ryeon are even more valuable as they are the first special appearances in the drama, demonstrating the reasons for the love calls with their dynamic performances," and added, "Please check how the three will intertwine with Park Min-young, Park Hee-soon, and Joo Jong-hyuk through the broadcast."
Meanwhile, 'Confidence Man KR' will simultaneously premiere on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 9:10 p.m. on TV CHOSUN and Coupang Play, and globally, it can be viewed in 240 countries and regions, excluding Korea, through Amazon Prime Video.
