'K-Pop Demon Hunters' surpassed 'Squid Game' Season 1 to record the highest viewership in Netflix history.
On the 3rd, according to Netflix's official site Tudum, the animated film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' (abbreviated as 'KDH') achieved a cumulative view count of 266 million, making it the most-watched content on Netflix across both films and shows.
Previously, 'Squid Game' Season 1 was the top viewership title on Netflix, released in 2021 with a cumulative view count of 265.2 million. Next was Tim Burton's series 'Wednesday,' which premiered in 2022 with a view count of 252.1 million.
'KDH' surpassed 'Red Notice,' which was the previous number one film, also recorded 230.9 million views in 2021. 'KDH' achieved the highest cumulative view count in Netflix history, including all films and shows.
'KDH' is an animated film depicting the story of the K-pop idol group Huntix fighting evil spirits and protecting the world with the power of music. Directed by Maggie Kang, a Korean-American, it has received acclaim for its interesting incorporation of K-pop and both traditional and modern Korean culture.
With this success, it has not only topped Netflix but also the OSTs of 'KDH' are sweeping various music charts including Billboard. Among them, 'Golden' is currently at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks.
