Singer So-hyang announced her divorce after 25 years of marriage.
On the 3rd, her agency, KQ Entertainment, said, "So-hyang has decided to support each other's paths based on sufficient communication and mutual respect," adding, "The divorce is a decision made by mutual agreement, not due to any fault by either party. We ask that you refrain from distorted or indiscriminate reports and comments."
On the same day, So-hyang revealed in an interview with a media outlet that she would walk her own path after 25 years of marriage to her ex-husband in 2023. Her ex-husband was a member of the CCM group POS, and the two married in 1998 while working together on music activities. However, they had no children.
In the past, So-hyang shared that she underwent surgery for cervical cancer early in her marriage, stating, "Cancer cells were discovered during the surgery. I was very worried because I wouldn't be able to get pregnant if the malignant tumor was removed." She continued, "Since one of my ovaries was removed, natural conception is impossible. I heard that artificial conception is physically difficult," revealing her complex feelings.
In particular, So-hyang confessed, "My husband doesn't mention artificial conception because he worries that I will have a hard time," adding, "I want to give him the joy of having a baby, but I feel sorry that I can't."
Although they had no children, the couple cherished and loved each other, maintaining their household for 25 years. However, they decided to go their separate ways after sufficient conversation.
Regarding the background of her decision to publicly announce the divorce, So-hyang explained, "I gained great courage from a scene where the main character, Lumi, confesses her hidden identity in the Netflix animated film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters.'"
The agency stated, "We will spare no effort to fully support So-hyang so that she can focus more on her music activities," and added, "We ask for your continued support for So-hyang's future endeavors."
