The first romantic pairing of actress Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won is raising expectations among drama fans.
The production presentation for the Disney+ original series "Polaris" (written by Jeong Seo-kyung, directed by Kim Hee-won and Heo Myung-haeng) was held on the morning of 2nd at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul. Attendees included Jun Ji-hyun, Gang Dong-won, Kim Hae-sook, Lee Mi-sook, Yoo Jae-myung, Oh Jung-se, Park Hae-joon, Lee Sang-hee, and Joo Jong-hyuk.
This project has been a topic of discussion since the casting news was announced. The drama features top star Jun Ji-hyun and Gang Dong-won making their first pairing in a melodrama, and with trusted supporting actors like Kim Hae-sook and Lee Mi-sook, anticipation has grown.
In the drama, Jun Ji-hyun plays Moon Ju, a UN ambassador caught up in political intrigue. She noted, "I was eager to work on a project by director Kim Hee-won and writer Jeong Seo-kyung. Above all, I wanted to work with Gang Dong-won before it was too late," explaining her reason for participating. She continued, "Moon Ju is a quiet character but possesses bold actions. She grows and changes throughout the events, so I feel a strong attachment to her."
Gang Dong-won plays a nationality-unknown special agent named Sanho. He introduced his character by saying, "Sanho is known as the ace of a global mercenary group. After coincidentally saving Moon Ju, he decides to protect her." He added, "He is a very lonely person with many worries, but upon meeting Moon Ju, he experiences a change where he is willing to protect her at all costs."
Regarding their filming experiences, both actors showered each other with praise. Jun Ji-hyun said, "I am a long-time fan of Gang Dong-won. One reason I chose this project was because of Gang Dong-won. I went from being a fan of his figures to being a fan of the person," showing a smile. In response, Gang Dong-won said, "Thanks to Jun Ji-hyun's enjoyable demeanor on set, I was happy too. Throughout the filming, I thought, 'This person is really cool.'"
Director Heo Myung-haeng expressed confidence, stating, "Gang Dong-won's physicality is so exceptional that even when doing the same action, he exudes a unique charm. You will see for yourself once the project is released."
Meanwhile, "Polaris" tells the story of Moon Ju (Jun Ji-hyun), who has built an international reputation, as she pursues the truth behind an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate, alongside special agent Sanho (Gang Dong-won), who must protect her, facing a massive truth threatening the Korean Peninsula. The first three episodes will be released on Disney+ on the 10th, with a total of nine episodes to be released sequentially every Wednesday thereafter.
