Kang Hyung-wook presented tailored solutions for the most aggressive wolves and the wolves suffering from excessive affection.
On the 2nd, Channel A's pet solution program 'Time of Dogs and Wolves' aired its 5th episode, revealing the stories of Shiba Inus that have become wolves for different reasons. The 'Suwon self-isolation dog,' which was born with a sensitive temperament, and the 'Namyangju spoiled dog,' whose excessive affection became toxic, were both putting their families in danger.
The aggression of the 'Suwon self-isolation dog' was already beyond control. Observing the dog threatening the family, Kang Hyung-wook was convinced, saying, "This is not a subject for interaction, but a dog that cannot be touched." He further diagnosed painfully that "rescuing the family from the self-isolation dog comes first," presenting survival solutions such as 'breaking patterns' to avoid bites and using a leash.
In particular, Kang Hyung-wook made a shocking remark, stating, "Think of it as there will be no physical contact in the future," clearly indicating that a cold boundary was necessary between the family and the self-isolation dog. Ultimately, the solution was not to change the dog's temperament but to master the minimum order to coexist with the family. After the solution, the dog successfully started walking, marking the beginning of change after a long period of inactivity.
On the other hand, the 'Namyangju spoiled dog' was facing major issues due to the owner's excessive affection, which conveyed the wrong message to the dog. Indiscriminate affection led to separation anxiety, coprophagia, and mounting behaviors, and everyone was shocked by the owner giving treats 104 times over two days. However, the owner did not know how to discipline the dog, not even recognizing how to curb the problematic behaviors. Ultimately, the time spent under the illusion that only love was the answer only further spoiled the dog. In response, another family member remarked, "There's nothing but love," while Kang Hyung-wook directed a blunt remark, asserting, "The owner is selfish." Indiscriminate affection and obsession were the true causes that broke the pet.
Under the principle of reducing touching and speaking, training for indifference continued, and gradual adaptation training for leashes and muzzles was also carried out. Although it was not an easy process, only through this change could the 'Namyangju spoiled dog' also change. Ultimately, the owner, who did not know the proper discipline methods, had to ask themselves what kind of owner they wanted to be and change, as this was the only path to transforming the dog.
'Time of Dogs and Wolves' goes beyond simple behavior correction to deeply examine the owner's attitude and environment that lie at the root of the problematic behaviors. It offers a total of three stages of solutions, starting with immediate feedback in the studio, followed by close care in daily life, and then extending to the actual living space of the owner.
Meanwhile, 'Time of Dogs and Wolves,' featuring Kim Sung-joo, Kang Hyung-wook, and a special MC, airs every Tuesday at 9:20 p.m. on Channel A.
