'2025 Japan-Korea King of Singers Competition' stirred up interest last year with intense competition among female vocalists, and this year it has returned with a showdown among male kings.
On the afternoon of 2nd, MBN's '2025 Japan-Korea King of Singers Competition' aired for the first time.
MC Shin Dong-yeop mentioned last year's victory of the Korean team, stating, "This time, it's completely different," raising expectations. Singer Lyn, who participated as a representative of the Korean team last year and experienced the joy of victory, recalled, "Last year, we barely won," and anticipated an even more intense competition this year.
Before the main competition, a preliminary round was held featuring the TOP 7 singers from both Korea and Japan. Singer Daesung expressed his excitement about the competition, saying, "I feel overwhelmed by the musical exchange between Korea and Japan."
The format of this year's 'King of Singers Competition' is a best-of-three format, where the winner must win two out of three matches to take the overall victory. However, the first match will not be a part of the main competition but rather a 'ranking exploration match.' The TOP 7 singers from both countries will face off against each other based on their rankings, engaging in a battle for pride.
In response, Lyn candidly expressed, "I would feel really upset if I lost," while Daesung commented, "It's embarrassing to fall behind when playing among ourselves," eliciting laughter. Particularly, the ranking exploration match will only be evaluated by the citizens of Korea and Japan, not a celebrity panel, drawing even more attention to the outcome.
Meanwhile, Seol Woon-do expressed concern, stating, "The Japanese team looks younger than the Korean team." In fact, the average age of the Japanese team is 28.1 years, which is significantly younger than the Korean team, raising curiosity about whether they can create a new trend.
