Yubin, a former member of Wonder Girls, appeals for national petition help amid sister's health crisis…"Please help."
Yubin, a singer from the group Wonder Girls, personally conveyed her family's tragic story and desperately appealed for help through a national petition.
On the 1st, Yubin posted a lengthy message on her personal channel, saying, "Something heartbreaking has happened to my precious and beloved family, prompting me to write this post."
Yubin revealed, "My older sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and has been struggling through treatment ever since. Unfortunately, last year it metastasized to her brain, and she is fighting a painful battle day by day." She added, "Fortunately, we have found an effective treatment, but it's incredibly challenging to receive proper care due to our circumstances," and she said, "With a desperate desire to protect my sister, I ask for your help."
The national petition Yubin referred to is titled 'Request for health insurance coverage and expedited processing for the breast cancer brain metastasis treatment drug Tukysa (tucatinib).' The petitioner complained, "The essential drug 'Tukysa,' which has proven effective for HER2-positive brain metastasis breast cancer patients, received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety last December, but its domestic sale has been indefinitely delayed," and further noted, "Patients who urgently need treatment are forced to rely on personal imports due to the high cost of the medication."
In particular, the cost of two months of Tukysa amounts to 30 million won. Since it must be used in combination with other chemotherapy drugs, the annual treatment cost can soar to 200 million won, but it is not covered by insurance. The petitioner emphasized, "To prevent the tragedy of patients and their families having to give up on life-saving drugs approved by the government for financial reasons, we urgently request the expedited insurance coverage for 'Tukysa.'"
Yubin also directly attached the petition link, stating, "This issue is not just a problem for our family, but it is directly related to whether many more patients in the future can continue to hope," and asked for the public's interest and participation once again.
Netizens who learned of the news sent encouraging messages such as, "Yubin, stay strong. I hope for a good outcome," "This reality is too harsh… System improvements are urgent," and "I came to support the petition. I hope it helps."
Meanwhile, attention is focused on how quickly Yubin's earnest appeal and this petition will gain public traction.
