"Oh Eun-young Report: Hell of Marriage" featured a couple in a push-pull dynamic.
On Nov. 1, MBC's "Oh Eun-young Report: Hell of Marriage" revealed the story of a couple in a push-pull dynamic. The episode prompted reflection on the couple's communication style and attitude, showcasing a husband who is solely focused on his wife and a wife who increasingly responds with silence.
The husband, who has entered the second year of marriage with his new wife, noted that he feels a slight disconnect in their relationship and expressed a desire to rectify their bond before it's too late. On this day, the husband revealed his desire to share everything with his wife, showcasing his focus on her. However, the footage of their daily life was shocking. The husband continuously called his wife while she was working, bombarding her with questions. Furthermore, he responded to her questions with completely irrelevant ones and decided on even trivial matters without consulting her.
In response, Dr. Oh Eun-young said, "The husband's attempt and intention to communicate with his wife are very good, but the problem is that he wants to communicate as if broadcasting. The husband has a predetermined amount of words to say each day. Communication must be based on respect for the other party, but the husband provides answers that are detached from his wife's intentions. As a result, the wife has lost interest in conversation."
The couple's problems did not end there. Right there was the wife's cursing. The wife not only cursed at her husband, who continued to engage her in conversation, but also unleashed harsh words towards him in front of acquaintances. The husband acknowledged that while his wife has a laid-back personality, he found her language habits and attitude difficult to endure.
Dr. Oh Eun-young strongly asserted regarding the wife's cursing, "I absolutely do not agree that using profanity can be described as being easygoing. It's too harsh. For any reason, it must stop. Children will hear this. Communication of this kind cannot convey what the husband wants."
Behind the wife's demeanor was a heartbreaking story. After enduring 30 hours of labor, she underwent an emergency C-section to deliver her child, and subsequently faced issues with fluid buildup in her lungs, requiring diuretics. Additionally, she gained nearly 30 kg after pregnancy and childbirth, and each time she looked in the mirror, she thought, "I am falling apart, while my husband remains unchanged and happy," leading to growing resentment towards him.
Moreover, the wife shared that she opened a webfoot octopus restaurant with the money she had diligently saved, but after becoming pregnant, she became neglectful, leading to debts amounting to 40 million won. After her father passed away when she was in the sixth grade, she became independent at a young age, feeling that financial independence was one of her important values. However, after losing her financial grounds, she began to resent her child.
The more they talked, the deeper the emotional rift grew between the push-pull couple. Dr. Oh Eun-young addressed the husband, advising him that his examples and explanations were inappropriate, as he spoke too much. She provided a solution to express his feelings without distortion by practicing to articulate his thoughts within ten words. As for the wife, she emphasized the need to practice not reacting impulsively to her husband's words but to take a deep breath for about four seconds before responding.
Meanwhile, on the night of the 8th at 10:50 p.m., MBC will air a special broadcast of "Oh Eun-young Report: Hell of Youth." "Hell of Youth" is a special project aimed at conveying the voices and concerns of marginalized youth while fostering empathy among adults. The program will be divided into parts featuring university students and high school students over two weeks.
