Actors Park Eun-hye, Ryu Jin, Hwang Dong-joo, and Gong Jeong-hwan will appear in the new daily drama 'Mari and the Unusual Dads' on KBS 1TV.
'Mari and the Unusual Dads' (directed by Seo Yong-soo, written by Kim Hong-joo), which is set to air for the first time in October, is a drama that depicts the birth of a peculiar family that is thicker than blood and more tenacious than sperm.
'Mari and the Unusual Dads' is a collaboration between director Seo Yong-soo, who is recognized for his delicate directing skills in 'Dohyun's Confession' and 'Overlap Knife, Knife,' and writer Kim Hong-joo, known for showcasing his graceful writing in the human drama genre with works like 'Even If I Hate You, I Love You' and 'High School Classmates.'
'Mari and the Unusual Dads' announced the casting news today (2nd) for Ha Seung-ri (playing the role of Kang Mari), Hyun-woo (playing the role of Lee Gang-se), Park Eun-hye (playing the role of Joo Si-ra), Ryu Jin (playing the role of Lee Pung-joo), Hwang Dong-joo (playing the role of Kang Min-bo), and Gong Jeong-hwan (playing the role of Jin Gi-sik).
First, Park Eun-hye takes on the role of Joo Si-ra, Mari's clumsy mother. Not wanting to miss her first love, Min-bo, whom she met at a meeting, Si-ra got married right after graduating from high school. She dreamed of creating a happy family after giving birth to a child, but a hidden secret regarding Mari's birth led to her divorce. Now, as her grown-up daughter Mari lives with her mother Yoon Soon-ae, the sudden return of Min-bo brings waves into Si-ra's life. Viewers are curious about what charm Park Eun-hye will showcase in 'Mari and the Unusual Dads,' having made her presence known in dramas like 'Alchemy of Souls', 'Love in Contract', and 'Double Trouble.'
Ryu Jin plays Lee Pung-joo, a logical and rational doctor, who is the older brother of Gang-se. He returns to Korea after 15 years abroad at the request of his mentor. However, as his father, who has been in conflict over his marriage issue, becomes a tenant in Mari's house, he inevitably gets intertwined with her family. Ryu Jin, known for his gentle looks and diverse acting skills shown in numerous works like 'Oh! Youngshik Villa!', 'Even If Deceived, Momentary Dream', and 'The Real One Has Appeared!', raises expectations for his performance in 'Mari and the Unusual Dads.'
Hwang Dong-joo appears as Kang Min-bo, Si-ra's ex-husband and now a famous painter. He, who has a physical complex, married Si-ra, who did not care about it, at a young age. When Si-ra gave birth to Mari, he was naturally happy, thinking she was his daughter, but upon discovering the hidden truth, they divorced. Later, while working as an artist in New York, he returns to Korea, unable to bear seeing his daughter Mari looking for him on social media and steps into the role of father, becoming the center of issues. Hwang Dong-joo, who has dominated daily dramas with works like 'Scandal', 'The Golden Mask', and 'Red Shoes', attracts attention with his presence.
Gong Jeong-hwan plays Jin Gi-sik, Mari's uncle and the department head of obstetrics and gynecology at Eomebyeongwon. He is ambitious and used the secret of Eome Gi-bun, whom he met while attending medical school, to even marry her daughter. While he prospered when his lifelong rival Pung-joo went abroad, Gi-sik starts feeling an unprecedented sense of crisis upon Pung-joo's sudden return. Gong Jeong-hwan, who captivated viewers with his solid performances in 'For Eagle Brothers', 'Death to Snow White - Black Out', and 'The Goryeo-Khitan War', raises higher interest in his distinctive acting transformation.
'Mari and the Unusual Dads' will air for the first time in October as the follow-up to 'Catch Your Luck.'
Meanwhile, earlier in February, Lee Yong-ja and Hwang Dong-joo became the final couple on KBS Joy and KBS 2TV's entertainment show 'Pursuing Old Encounters.' This program, which aims to represent 'real blind dates for middle-aged people who want to experience real romance,' saw Lee Yong-ja and Hwang Dong-joo evoke excitement among viewers with their natural conversations and consideration from their first meeting. Following the broadcast, there was growing anticipation among viewers that the two might actually start dating.
