Actor Park Min-young once again mentioned the controversy over dialect that arose in 'Marry My Husband.'
On the 1st, a production presentation for the new weekend mini-series 'Confidence Man KR' (written by Hong Seung-hyun, directed by Nam Ki-hoon) was held at the Stanford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
'Confidence Man KR' is a fraud drama where three con artists with versatile abilities seek revenge against the villains of this era. The exciting storylines that cleverly exploit the flaws of the social system, along with the amusing twist on the existing crime genre, signal the birth of a 'K-caper' film. The original 'Confidence Man JP' was released in theaters in Japan and also broadcast as a special project for Fuji Television's 60th anniversary, so there is keen interest in whether the Korean remake version, featuring various actors, will lead to domestic box office success.
Director Nam Ki-hoon, known for his explosive directing skills in major genre works including 'Casino', 'Kiss Sixth Sense', 'Oh My Baby', and 'Voice 3', has teamed up with writer Hong Seung-hyun, who gained recognition for his sensuous writing in 'Criminal Minds' and 'Cheryong 1, 2.'
Park Min-young, who has firmly established herself as the 'Romantic Comedy Queen' through works like 'What's Wrong with Secretary Kim,' 'People at the Korea Meteorological Administration: A Cruel History of Workplace Romance,' and 'Marry My Husband,' plays the role of con artist leader Yoon Yi-rang, who possesses an IQ of 165 and a genius intellect in the top 1%. She transforms into a shocking character as a con artist in a 'caper' film and aims to set a new record for her character.
Park Min-young said, "The success of a project is something no one can predict. Since this is my first work for Amazon Prime, it's an opportunity I can't miss. Each actor wanted vibrant and lively roles, and this time, I will act in a more dynamic and proactive way. While I was passive in 'Marry My Husband,' I was attracted to the part where I could give back this time."
In particular, Park Min-young had to act in the dialect of Gangwon Province in this work. Having been criticized for her portrayal of Gyeongsang Province dialect in her previous work 'Marry My Husband,' Park Min-young shared, "I attempted to use Gyeongsang Province dialect in my last project and received criticism. This time, I imagined a dialect that I might not know, related to the drama. It was a dialect that one might come up with after moving about 12 times. I performed a version of the dialect, while the perfect Wonju dialect was spoken by Joo Jong-hyuk, so I had my own dialect."
TV CHOSUN's new weekend mini-series 'Confidence Man KR' will premiere on the 6th at 9:10 p.m. and will be simultaneously released on Coupang Play.
