Park Min-young, the 'Romantic Comedy Queen,' has returned not with a romantic comedy but with a caper film. As it guarantees box office success, curiosity arises about the compatibility of the caper genre and Park Min-young, while interest focuses on her transformation that has never been seen before.
The new weekend mini-series on TV CHOSUN, 'Confidence Man KR' (written by Hong Seung-hyun, directed by Nam Gi-hoon), is a caper that follows three con artists with versatile skills as they seek revenge against the villains of this era. It promises an exciting story that cleverly digs into the flaws of the social system and heralds the birth of 'K-caper,' which humorously twists the grammar of existing crime genres.
The original work, 'Confidence Man JP,' has been released as a film in Japan and was also broadcast as a special project for the 60th anniversary of Fuji Television. The Japanese original, coupled with the explosive directorial talent of Nam Gi-hoon, known for major genre productions like 'Casino,' 'Kiss Sixth Sense,' 'Oh My Baby,' and 'Voice 3,' along with the writer Hong Seung-hyun, who has been recognized for his stylish writing in 'Criminal Mind' and 'Choryong 1, 2,' have successfully completed the Korean adaptation.
'Confidence Man KR' is led by Park Min-young. After a 1 year and 6 month break since 'Marry My Husband,' Park Min-young takes on the role of the con artist leader Yoon Yi-rang, who possesses an IQ of 165 and a genius-level intellect, transforming into a provocative character of a con artist, aiming to redefine her career.
Park Min-young explained about her character, saying, "She is a leader who plans by showcasing a high IQ among the con artists and assigns roles. While there's a sociopathic feel, she is also an actress with a deep inner story. I felt it was a compelling role for an actress. I faced some difficulties in transforming, but I worked hard during filming."
Given Park Min-young's record of box office hits in every project, 'Confidence Man KR' is also predicted to be a success. Notably, 'Confidence Man KR' has been decided to be produced as an 'Amazon Original Drama' by Amazon Prime Video, which is broadcast in over 240 countries worldwide, and with the partnership of Coupang Play and TV CHOSUN, which boasts a solid viewer base, the 'global mega universe' is expected to expand infinitely, drawing attention.
Regarding box office success, Park Min-young stated, "Box office success is something that no one can predict. It's a chance that can't be missed for Amazon Prime's first project, and each actor wanted lively and bouncing roles, but this time I act more dynamically and proactively. While in 'My Husband,' I was on the receiving end, in this one, I felt attracted to the part where I give back."
The aspects of Park Min-young that have not been shown before will be unveiled through 'Confidence Man KR.' Since the series will proceed in an episodic format, there will be performances showcasing the acting talents and transformations of the 'Con Man' team, including Park Min-young, Park Hee-soon, and Joo Jong-hyuk, each episode. Park Min-young commented, "This is the first time I'm part of an episodic black comedy with so many transformations, so I approached it cautiously at first, but as the confrontation intensified, by the end, I felt nearly like Bruno Mars. I truly thought, 'I can't handle this.' Everyone made high-quality transformations, and that part will be a viewing point."
In particular, Park Hee-soon remarked, "The transformation into a secondary character is also fun, and I think it's a work optimized for generating memes. There are many characters and exaggerated gestures, so I believe many memes and shorts will emerge." Park Min-young laughed at Park Hee-soon's words, wondering if it would lead to the creation of an embarrassing history.
The new weekend mini-series on TV CHOSUN, 'Confidence Man KR' will premiere on the 6th at 9:10 p.m. and will be released simultaneously on Coupang Play.
