Actress Park Min-young reunites with 'trash husband' Lee Yi-kyung.
On the 1st, a production presentation for the new TV CHOSUN weekend mini-series 'Confidenceman KR' (written by Hong Seung-hyun, directed by Nam Gi-hoon) was held at the Stanford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
'Confidenceman KR' is a con drama where three con artists with versatile abilities seek revenge against the villains of this era. Along with a thrilling story that cleverly exploits the flaws of the social system, it hints at the birth of a 'K-caper' that playfully subverts the conventions of the existing crime genre. Since the original 'Confidenceman JP' was released as a film in Japan and aired as a special project for Fuji Television's 60th anniversary, interest is growing in whether the Korean remake version can lead to domestic box office success.
Director Nam Gi-hoon, known for his explosive directorial skills in major genres such as 'Casino', 'Kiss Sixth Sense', 'Oh My Baby', and 'Voice 3', teamed up with writer Hong Seung-hyun, who has been recognized for his sensibility in 'Criminal Mind' and 'Cheoyong 1 and 2'.
Another fun aspect of 'Confidenceman KR' is its special guest lineup, which matches the main cast. Starting with Song Ji-hyo, Kim Bo-sung, Yoon Chae-kyung, Rowoon, Oh Na-ra, Kim Sun-young, and Lee Yi-kyung are expected to enrich 'Confidenceman KR'.
Director Nam Gi-hoon noted, "Regardless of personal connections, we compiled a list based on whether it fits the character and made the optimal casting. Then, through networks and drinking parties, we actively approached them, and they graciously accepted."
In particular, Park Min-young reunites with Lee Yi-kyung, who roused anger as the 'trash husband' in 'Marry My Husband'. Park Min-young said, "The reason I recommended Lee Yi-kyung was summed up in one sentence. The script mentions that 'a man is singing izi's 'Emergency Room' while using the bathroom, lost in self-absorption.' I wondered who could express that, and thought Lee Yi-kyung could. He's specialized in comedy, so when I asked if he could appear in an episode that deals with comedy, he graciously accepted. We filmed for six months due to scheduling conflicts, and he practically came to the wrap party."
She added, "He's a trash husband, but this time, he approached me as a very kind younger brother, so our chemistry was great. It felt like all the grime of the previous work was washed away. We're set to show a proper catharsis."
The new TV CHOSUN weekend mini-series 'Confidenceman KR' will premiere on the 6th at 9:10 p.m., and will be simultaneously released on Coupang Play.
