Home Alone writer Park Cheon-hyu revealed that he has not yet received his Broadway payment.
On the broadcast of MBC's entertainment program Home Alone (hereinafter referred to as 'Home Alone') on the 29th, Park Cheon-hyu was depicted confessing that he still had not received his payment.
On that day, Park Cheon-hyu said, "I am Park Cheon-hyu, who has been living alone for 18 years. I live in New York, USA. I lived with my family in Korea before going to New York for study abroad. Having lived half of my life, New York seems to be my identity now."
He, who said it was not at an early age to study abroad, added, "I went to New York for study abroad at the age of 25."
Meanwhile, Park Cheon-hyu visited the Belasco Theatre on Broadway. The Belasco Theatre is where the musical "Maybe Happy Ending" is performed and has a history of 100 years. On that day, Park passed through a line that wrapped around the building more than 30 minutes before the performance and entered through a side door.
Upon entering the backstage area, Ki asked, "Do you come to work directly, writer?" Park Cheon-hyu replied, "The writers come to work until the performance stabilizes. When new actors come in, the writer comes to work for practice."
The 1,000-seat auditorium was fully packed with audiences. Park Cheon-hyu said, "Recently, thankfully, the reservation rate reached 100%. Even the standing seats are sold, bringing it to 103%," adding that the most expensive seat costs $500, approximately 700,000 won, and the average ticket price is $200, which is about 280,000 won.
Also noting that there are no discounts for acquaintances, Park Cheon-hyu said, "There is no cap on ticket prices. The production company raises prices based on demand," which surprised everyone.
Meanwhile, the house of Park Cheon-hyu, located 15 minutes from Broadway, was revealed. He said, "It is a house with one bedroom, which is what they call a one bed in the U.S." He explained, "I am in New York Queens and originally lived in Brooklyn for a long time but moved here during COVID-19."
He continued, "It has a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room, and this is a very appropriate space for me. The long-lived apartment in Brooklyn was a studio. Since coming here and having a master bedroom, I felt like a successful person when I could close the door while sleeping. Maybe those who live in a studio will relate to this."
Then, Jun Hyun-moo said, "Since you received a Tony Award, I should check it out," and Park Cheon-hyu revealed, "The Tony Award does not have a prize money, and I have not properly received my Broadway payment."
Amid everyone's surprise, Park Cheon-hyu explained, "It takes a long time there. It's quarterly, but I heard that I did not make any revenue in the first quarter. They said they would get back to me soon in the second and third quarters."
Kian84 asked, "That shouldn't happen, right?" and Park Cheon-hyu replied, "I believe they will pay me, and I signed a contract, and they are giving me the highest amount. There is a minimum." To this, Kian84 humorously recalled a past marathon when he said, "Surprisingly, the people of New York do not keep promises."
