In MBN's new Wednesday-Thursday miniseries 'First Lady', Lee Min-young is poised to star as Shin Hae-rin, the close aide to the presidential elect who subtly shakes the power axis.
Ahead of its premiere on Sept. 24 at 10:20 p.m., MBN's new Wednesday-Thursday miniseries 'First Lady' (written by Kim Hyung-wan and directed by Lee Ho-hyun) tells the story of an unprecedented event where a husband elected as president demands a divorce from his wife, who is set to become the first lady. The narrative captures the suffocating conflict of the presidential couple in the 67 days leading up to the presidential inauguration, as political conspiracies and family secrets arise.
'First Lady' is a work completed by writer Kim Hyung-wan, who has showcased a distinctive storytelling sense and outstanding writing skills in dramas such as 'Dream High 2', 'Hide Your Identity', and the movie 'Superstar Gam Sa-yong', after a six-year writing journey. This has drawn attention to the outcome. Additionally, a solid cast of talented actors, including U-Jin, Ji Hyun-woo, Lee Min-young, Han Su-ah, Shin So-yul, Kim Ki-bang, and Oh Seung-eun, is set to bring a unique synergy to the drama.
Lee Min-young will appear as Shin Hae-rin, the head of the presidential elect Hyun Min-cheol's (Ji Hyun-woo) transition team and his closest aide. In the drama, Shin Hae-rin is a loyal character who knows all of Hyun Min-cheol's secrets, to the point of being called 'seondangjo', supporting him closely. Having lived as Hyun Min-cheol's shadow, little is known about her personal life, leaving her shrouded in mystery.
Above all, Lee Min-young has demonstrated a strong presence through impactful performances in various works including 'Koryo-Khitan War', 'The Essence of a Perfect Marriage', 'Love According to Law', and 'Marriage Lyrics Divorce Composition 1, 2, 3'. Expectations are heightening for how Lee Min-young will present her transformation in the role of Shin Hae-rin, proving her ability to completely embody any character.
In this regard, scenes capturing Lee Min-young's struggles as the loyal aide Shin Hae-rin have drawn attention. In the drama, there is a scene where Shin Hae-rin attempts a phone call with a serious expression at the National Power Party's office. Shin Hae-rin shows a nervous demeanor as she leans in closely with her cellphone to her face, listening intently. She then gazes somewhere with a solemn expression, raising curiosity about whom she is looking at and the intentions behind Shin Hae-rin's mysterious actions.
Meanwhile, Lee Min-young explained the pivotal reason for her participation in 'First Lady', saying, 'This is a genre I've never encountered before, and I have never attempted a character who loyally supports someone, which made me eager to take on this challenge.' She also revealed her special passion for the role of Shin Hae-rin, stating, 'I wanted to keep her inner self hidden, so I organized my outfits and makeup as neatly as possible.' She continued, 'I usually express my emotions broadly, but while playing Shin Hae-rin, I tried to embody a cold and businesslike tone.'
Additionally, Lee Min-young pointed out key viewing points that audiences should pay attention to, saying, 'The spectacular narratives presented by unique characters will maximize the engagement of the piece,' and added, 'I hope for much love and interest in 'First Lady.'
