Actor Park Yong-woo expressed a special affection for 'Walking On Thin Ice', which is set to premiere soon.
The new KBS 2TV Saturday-Sunday miniseries 'Walking On Thin Ice' (directed by Song Hyun-wook, written by Jeon Young-shin), scheduled to premiere on Sept. 20, depicts the perilous collaboration of a parent, Kang Eun-soo, who wants to protect her family, and a teacher with two faces, Lee Kyung, who accidentally acquires a bag of drugs.
Park Yong-woo plays Jang Tae-goo, the head of the Drug Investigation Team at the Gwangnam Police Station, who tracks down drug trafficking organizations. Tae-goo is a man who operates on instinct, nicknamed the 'psychic.' When his sixth sense kicks in, it is 99% accurate. He specializes in extracting confessions without resorting to violence and is naturally gifted in this regard. As the drug trafficking organization 'Phantom' seeks to recover a lost bag of drugs, he becomes entangled with an ordinary housewife, Kang Eun-soo (played by Lee Young-ae), raising suspicions. Strangely, Jang Tae-goo begins to follow Kang Eun-soo, who is always present in the vicinity of the incidents with his keen intuition. Although he appears to be a cold-blooded detective, he carries inner deficiencies and loneliness, which will drive another aspect of the narrative.
Regarding his choice of 'Walking On Thin Ice,' Park Yong-woo noted, "Above all, the script was very excellent. A good script allows the reader to feel the emotions of that character, and I found myself reading it in suspense, laughing, and crying unknowingly. The charm of the main characters not losing strength until the end was also impressive."
While portraying the character of Jang Tae-goo, Park Yong-woo emphasized, "I pondered over how to express the taciturnity of a detective while also conveying the inner wounds that are not known to others." He added, "Jang Tae-goo is a character who constantly has to make decisions amidst monstrous criminals, victims, and innocent people. His choices will significantly impact many people," heightening expectations for his performance.
Park Yong-woo expressed admiration for his fellow actors Lee Young-ae and Kim Young-kwang, stating, "Communicating through acting with good actors is the greatest joy. I was so happy to work with Lee Young-ae, someone I really wanted to collaborate with, that I felt a thrill, and her performance on set was astonishing. I missed an opportunity to work with Kim Young-kwang in the past, but I was glad to reconnect this time and witness his matured acting skills."
Identifying two key themes for expressing his character, Park Yong-woo pointed out 'deficiency and loneliness,' stating, "All the characters in the work are intertwined with their own wounds, and within that, they feel deficiency and loneliness, ultimately moving with emotions derived from love. Jang Tae-goo is no exception."
"In conclusion, I want to showcase the performances of the actors. Please also look forward to the unpredictably tense developments at every moment," he stated, adding, "'Walking On Thin Ice' is a rare drama that combines fun, emotion, and lingering impact," revealing his confidence in the work.
