Singer Gina (real name Gina Jane Choi), who had suspended her activities due to a prostitution controversy, has shared her current status after about 15 months.
On the 28th, Gina posted a selfie on her Instagram with the caption, "Hello, it's been awhile." Her heavy makeup and disheveled hairstyle caught attention, and the comment section was closed, seemingly conscious of public opinion. This update to her social media accounts comes about 1 year and 3 months since her last post in May of last year.
Gina debuted in 2010 and became a top singer in the music scene with several hit songs, including "Go Away and Live Well" and "Black and White." However, she virtually halted her activities in the entertainment industry after being caught up in a prostitution scandal in 2016.
According to prosecutors, Gina is accused of engaging in sexual relations three times with two individuals, including a Korean American businessman, in Korea and Los Angeles in 2015, receiving about 15 million won each time for a total of 40 million won.
Gina's side claimed, "I was deceived by a broker," stating that they only met with mutual interest. However, the investigation revealed that money was funneled through the broker. The court did not accept Gina's claims based on this evidence, and in 2016, she was issued a summary order for a fine of 2 million won for violating the law regarding the punishment of acts related to prostitution.
Afterward, Gina appealed her grievances on social media, but the public's reaction was cold. Her explanation, which seemed to dismiss the matter already concluded by the judiciary as a "rumor," failed to gain authenticity.
Having effectively been expelled from the entertainment industry following the controversy, Gina has shown no official signs of a comeback and continues to share limited updates on her status through social media. Her post's comment section remains blocked.
