On the 28th, a production presentation for Coupang Play's new variety show 'Shooting Star' Season 2 (hereinafter Shooting Star 2) was held at The Link Seoul in Sindorim-dong, Guro-gu, Seoul.
'Shooting Star' is the only full-time growth soccer variety show in Korea, where retired legendary players challenge active K League players alongside Director General Park Ji-sung and coach Choi Yong-soo. Last season, it surpassed 3 million cumulative views on Shorts and Reels, proving its real-time popularity. In particular, the impossible challenges of retired legendary players opened a new horizon in sports variety shows with explosive responses from viewers, filled with unscripted laughter and tears.
'Shooting Star', which provided intense emotion through the new challenges of retired legendary players, will see FC Shooting Star, promoted to K3 League this season, compete against teams in the K3 league, which is the top semi-professional league in Korea connecting K League 1 and K League 2.
As the opponents have become stronger, the players will also be upgraded to a dazzling extent, deserving of the title 'Dream Team'. Alongside Director General Park Ji-sung, coach Choi Yong-soo, and chief coach Seol Ki-hyeon, the enhanced lineup includes Koo Ja-cheol, the key player of the 2012 London Olympic bronze medal team and captain of the national team leading the 'London Generation'; Lee Geun-ho, who won the AFC Champions League MVP and Player of the Year award as 'Son of the Sun'; Yeom Ki-hoon, who received high praise from coach Choi Yong-soo in Season 1 as 'Yeom Star'; and newly recruited legendary defender Yoon Young-sun, who will join the existing players to tackle the arduous challenges of 'FC Shooting Star'.
Koo Ja-cheol said, "Before retiring, I had many injuries and couldn't play much, but I had a goal that I could relieve my regrets. Just being with good players was important. Since this is my official first stage after retirement, it was very attractive that I could earnestly participate while also showing a variety side. It was fascinating to wear a microphone and a camera while playing, and I couldn't remember what I said during the match. The feeling was different when I faced K3 League teams during my active days compared to now after retirement. I knew they were good teams, but meeting them after retiring really made me feel how great they are."
Lee Geun-ho said, "I am also happy and excited coming into Season 2. I remember times when I had regrets, and those feelings were genuine. Being in this position, I felt a lot. Through soccer, I could recall my past and feel camaraderie, relationships, and everything again. It was a valuable time, so I hope those watching can feel that too." He further remarked, "I wonder if I should have entered in Season 1. They showed such great play that I thought I could have also shone if I had gone in.
