Previously, a person surnamed A requested child support after Kim Dong-sung, an Olympic short track speed skater, did not pay the agreed child support in full starting around March 2020, following their divorce. Kim Dong-sung avoided the request, citing financial difficulties. Suffering from financial hardship, person A provided Kim Dong-sung's information to the operator of 'Bad Fathers,' who discloses the personal details of those who fail to pay child support, and also responded to media interview requests. In response, Kim Dong-sung and his current wife, In Min-jung, filed a defamation lawsuit against person A in January this year for the false statements made.
According to reports, the police, after reviewing the interview content and related materials, determined that person A could not be deemed to have intentionally mentioned falsehoods. However, they concluded that the series of actions by person A, including being listed on Bad Fathers and the media interviews, constituted private sanctions, and they referred the case to the prosecution on charges of defamation due to factual disclosure.
Above all, Kim Dong-sung filed a defamation lawsuit in 2020 against person A for spreading false information that he had committed adultery but was met with backlash, being fined 3 million won for false accusations. Additionally, person A sued him in 2023 for failing to pay 80.1 million won in child support for their two children, on charges of violating the Child Support Enforcement Act. It was reported that Kim Dong-sung has not paid child support since being sued, with the total arrears surpassing 100 million won.
In this regard, In Min-jung recently stated on her social media, "We have gone through those nightmare times and are now working at a construction site, but about 2 million won is being deducted monthly for personal rehabilitation repayment, such as bank account seizures and bankruptcy. Due to the disclosure on Bad Fathers and interviews mixed with falsehoods, schooling has been interrupted, and we've earned money that is below the minimum living expenses, while debts continue to accumulate to nearly 600 million won," and emphasized, "I am definitely not a deliberate evader. My resolve to find a way to earn money to resolve child support remains unchanged. I will definitely ensure that all children are supported even as they become adults."
