As evidence has emerged that Psy received prescriptions for psychotropic drugs without undergoing direct consultations, the agency has released an official statement.
According to KBS on the 27th, the Seo-daemun Police Department in Seoul is investigating Psy and Professor A from a university hospital who prescribed the medications for violations of the Medical Law.
The police have found clues that Psy has been prescribed psychotropic drugs, namely Xanax and Stilnox, at a general hospital in Seoul without receiving in-person consultations from 2022 to the recent date, and that the medication was also collected by his manager rather than by him.
In response, the police have commenced a forced investigation, including raiding the hospital to secure Psy's medical records.
It is a principle that psychotropic medications are to be received by the patient themselves, and collecting them on behalf of someone else is prohibited except in exceptional cases. Violating this can lead to up to one year in prison or fines of less than 10 million won.
In connection with this, on the 28th, Psy's side admitted, "It is a clear mistake and oversight to have someone else collect the prescription sleeping medication. We apologize." However, they clarified that it was 'proxy collection' and not 'proxy prescription.'
The agency stated, "Singer Psy has been diagnosed with chronic sleep disorders and is taking sleeping pills as prescribed by medical professionals. The medication is taken under the guidance of medical personnel according to the prescribed dosage, and there were no proxy prescriptions."
They added, "During that process, there were instances of a third party collecting the sleeping medication, and an investigation by the police is currently underway. We apologize again for causing concern."
Meanwhile, Psy recently wrapped up his summer concert 'Psy Summer Swag 2025,' which has been held in various locations including Incheon, Uijeongbu, Daejeon, Gwacheon, Sokcho, Suwon, Daegu, Busan, and Gwangju this year.
