The lead actor of 'Walking On Thin Ice,' Kim Young-kwang, revealed the reason for choosing this work along with his infinite trust in Lee Young-ae.
'Walking On Thin Ice,' which is set to premiere on Sept. 20, is a new KBS2 weekend mini-series (written by Jeon Young-shin, directed by Song Hyun-wook, produced by Baram Pictures and Slingshot Studio). It depicts the perilous journey of a parent, Kang Eun-soo, who wishes to protect her family and a two-faced teacher, Lee Kyung, who inadvertently comes into possession of a drug bag.
In the drama, Kim Young-kwang portrays Lee Kyung, a two-faced character who, despite being a charming art instructor at a prestigious school with an attractive appearance and pleasant personality, secretly lives as a well-known merchandise dealer catering to VIPs at the famous Gangnam club 'Medusa.' Though he appears to be a healthy and upstanding young man on the outside, he strictly maintains boundaries while concealing his inner secrets, intending to add tension to the drama.
Kim Young-kwang mentioned that the main attraction for choosing this work was the opportunity to act alongside 'senior' Lee Young-ae. Regarding his acting chemistry with Lee Young-ae, he said, 'I learned a lot from directly feeling her concentration and energy on set. Most of all, I was able to film comfortably because I trusted her.'
Additionally, in expressing the character of Lee Kyung, Kim Young-kwang emphasized the importance of focusing on the natural emotional changes that occur depending on the situation rather than deliberately portraying the stark differences between appearance and inner thoughts. He noted that external style changes are also an important tool to illustrate the duality of the character. He identified the key phrase representing Lee Kyung as 'dual life,' explaining, 'This character lives a life that is completely different on the outside and inside, and while emotions sometimes lead to complications, there is a desperation to revert to a normal life.'
Finally, he remarked, 'When I first read the script, I remember being unable to put it down because I was so curious about where Lee Kyung's dual life and journey would lead. Although it may seem rough and dangerous on the surface, he is actually someone who carries a secret that he cannot share with anyone.' He added, 'Everyone seems fine on the outside, but it feels like they endure life in their own way. 'Walking On Thin Ice' is a work that candidly shows the weight of such invisible lives, so I hope for a lot of anticipation from viewers.'
