CORTIS, the 'young creator crew' of Big Hit Music, shared the behind-the-scenes story of the co-creation of the music video.
CORTIS (Martin, James, Juhun, Seonghyeon, Geonho) posted a commentary video for the music video of their debut album's title track 'What You Want' on the team's official YouTube channel at 9 p.m. on the 27th. They covered in-depth discussions about the official music video and the self-produced video that served as its prototype.
The five members explained that they were involved in every aspect of the self-produced music video, from planning to filming and editing. They noted, "If someone keeps asking 'What You Want,' wouldn't you feel pressured? We wanted to escape that anxiety. That's how the idea of 'dream,' which is removed from daily life, came about."
They shared their approach to co-creating the team's core content, saying, "First, we throw out ideas and include even those that seem absurd in the planning, then we discuss and refine them together." They also mentioned, "When producing videos, we don't divide roles; everyone creates together. During filming, we only establish a general framework without specifying detailed angles. We tried to express ourselves sensorially as we felt it," showcasing their free-spirited thinking.
CORTIS expressed their surprise that the self-produced video became the prototype for the official music video, saying, "I never expected a video we made for fun to lead to an official music video. It seems that the direction utilizing 'dream' and various elements of the self-produced video were well implemented." They added, "The filming location for the official music video is a desert, which is a place chosen to convey the keyword 'pressure' from the original work."
Towards the end of the video, they mentioned, "I think it would be more fun if you compare the two videos. The story flows like a mind map. If you understand and watch, you can enjoy it twice as much."
CORTIS is showcasing their capabilities as a 'young creator crew' by co-creating not just music and choreography but also videos. Their debut album, 'COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES,' which contains their sparkling ideas, will be released on September 8th. There is high anticipation for this album, which marks the first step of the five members in seeking what they truly desire, not a key handed to them by someone else.
