The horror movie "Home Cam" (Studio Santa Claus Entertainment Co., Ltd. | Production: M Pictures Co., Ltd. | Co-production: A Cut Co., Ltd. | Director: Oh Se-ho) is gaining attention ahead of its upcoming release.
"Home Cam", with its "novel" combination of "home cam" + "ghost", captured public attention and made its debut to the press and audience at a media screening and event screening on Aug. 26 (Tuesday).
"Home Cam" provides a bizarre feeling of déjà vu as a national home appliance that watches over the most intimate areas of the household as a reassuring security device for all citizens. The film showcases overwhelming horror through the character of Sung-hee, who becomes engulfed in fear after installing the home cam, and it has been praised for skillfully utilizing the home cam's features from its material to filming to enhance the genre's charm.
The day after the official event, on Aug. 27 (Wednesday), a special screening in collaboration with KT Home Cam was successfully held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall. This screening focused on maximizing audience immersion by watching a film centered around "Home Cam" in a theater where the home cam was actually set up, including key materials and part of the actual shooting. Notably, it was conducted in a Tempur Cinema where all seats were made into reclining motion beds, creating an environment that further matched the film's setting of being engulfed in fear after installing a home cam in the home. On the event day, attendees arrived at the theater and had fun taking selfies in front of banners and posters with mirror sheets attached to the home cam lens section before the viewing. Audience members entering the Tempur Cinema focused on the home cam that reacted to their movements. Even during the actual screening, the vivid real-time reactions of the immersed audience were captured by the home cam.
Furthermore, following the screenings over two days, reactions included "A movie that came out frighteningly with Korea's unique occult enhanced by the technological feat of home cam" (CGV_Sleeping **), "The shamanistic scene was breathtaking! The sound was good, making it thrilling to watch" (CGV_c **), "A horror film where realistic and unrealistic fears are well mixed! The direction that shows the camera screen and reality in interchange highlights the tension and anxiety of the characters" (CGV_Shining ***), "The home cam, an electronic device monitoring even the coziest homes that should be the most comfortable in the CCTV Republic of Korea. The tragedy occurring from the perspective of a watcher in a familiar space invokes unbearable terror" (CGV_Happy **), "Adequately mixed everyday tension and shamanistic beliefs" (CGV_Ri *), and "Yoon Se-ah's sensitive acting stands out. Other actors also had no acting gaps, making it easy to immerse myself" (CGV_Beautiful **), among others.
It will be released at CGV on Sept. 10.
