In a photoshoot for the fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar Korea, Jang Dong-yoon showcased contrasting charms, from his clear and natural boyishness reminiscent of a youth film to his intense and bold gaze and poses.
In a follow-up interview, when asked why he chose the role of Cha Soo-yeol, the son of serial killer Jeong Yi-shin (Go Hyun-jung), in the drama The Mantis: Original Sin, which is set to be released soon, he said, "The reason I chose this work is entirely due to the influence of director Byun Young-joo. I trust the director, and I'm excited to see how he will express and resolve the conflicts and emotions between humans within the thriller genre, just as he did in his previous works such as 'The Chaser' and 'Death to Snow White.' It was challenging, but I took it on with a pleasant sense of responsibility and tension."
When asked about the challenges he faced while taking on the role of Soo-yeol, he said, "It was a challenge to express the moment of resentment towards my mother and to show Soo-yeol's usual demeanor as a police officer who does not confront his mother. If expressed improperly, the emotions could become too intense, so I discussed the subtle points of emotion with the director."
When asked about the moment he became confident in continuing to act as an actor, he replied, "Rather than a dramatic moment, it seems that I always check in on myself. I ask myself whether I am doing well as an actor, whether I am growing properly. Although it is slow, I believe I am moving in the right direction. I want to work as an actor for a long time. It is very enjoyable to express life, have various experiences, and always have learning opportunities. I feel the greatest joy when I am on set."
