The late Kim Ja-ok was a true princess of our time.
On the 26th, Lee Seong-mi, who appeared on the YouTube channel 'Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life,' confessed her deep bond with the late senior Kim Ja-ok. He said, "Ja-ok unni and I became close while working together on broadcasts, and she was truly funny and adorable. She was so beautiful, and her smiling face was lovely, so I asked, 'How can you be so pretty?' and she replied, 'I don't wash,' a born actress," he smiled.
Lee Seong-mi reported that she was a close neighbor and a strong friend, living in the same APT. as Kim Ja-ok. He said, "When I got cancer, the first text I received from her was, 'Since I'm your senior in cancer, let me know if it gets tough.' When I was having a hard time, she would come, and when she was struggling, I would go to her, and we relied on each other," reminiscing about their affectionate friendship.
However, the sudden deterioration of her condition hastened their separation. Lee Seong-mi confessed, "One day, her text was nonsensical, so I thought it was strange and went to see her, and she was already in a situation where she needed to go to the hospital. The last image I had was of her, having a hole drilled in her neck for life support and tears streaming down her face."
Before passing away, Kim Ja-ok left a special request for Lee Seong-mi. She said, "When I die, I would like you to take care of my funeral. Please dress me in a hanbok. I dislike chrysanthemums, so please use roses instead." Therefore, she was dressed in a hanbok by Park Sul-nyeo, and the funeral home was filled with roses," she reported. She continued, "She also left a message asking, 'Please clean my room,' so I organized it as she wished, and some of her belongings were given to juniors," explaining that she respected the late star's last wishes.
Kim Ja-ok debuted in 1970 as part of the second talent recruitment by the Korean Broadcasting System (MBC). She went on to appear in hit sitcoms such as 'Shim Chong,' 'Three Men and Three Women,' as well as long-format dramas like 'Our House,' and was beloved for her roles in 'Cat on the Roof,' 'A Million Roses,' 'My Name is Kim Sam-soon,' and 'Coffee Prince 1st Shop.'
In particular, the late star married singer Oh Seung-geun, giving birth to one son and one daughter, garnering support as a star family. In 1996, she also made waves as a singer, releasing the trot song 'The Princess is Lonely,' produced by singer Tae Jin-ah, which recorded approximately 600,000 album sales.
However, after undergoing colon cancer surgery in 2008, Kim Ja-ok battled cancer that metastasized to her lungs, continuing chemotherapy. Even during her battle, she appeared in shows such as 'High Kick Through the Roof,' 'Brotherly Love,' and 'A Woman Who Marries Three Times.' Her condition rapidly deteriorated, and she passed away from complications of lung cancer on Nov. 16, 2014, at the age of 63.
