Following 'senior' Jeon So-min, 'junior' Ji Ye-eun is also sharing experiences of suddenly collapsing after running hard as female members of 'Running Man.'
On the 25th, a representative from Ji Ye-eun's agency, CPN Entertainment, told OSEN, "Ji Ye-eun will focus on health recovery, taking care of her condition starting September. We will provide all necessary support to ensure that the actress can take enough rest and return," sharing the news of her activity suspension.
Ji Ye-eun is currently active in Coupang Play's variety series 'SNL Korea' and the 'Office Workers' series. Thanks to this, she joined the SBS variety program 'Running Man' as a fixed member, succeeding Jeon So-min, who left at the end of 2023, and is showcasing her unique presence.
However, sudden health issues have sparked concern among fans. Regarding Ji Ye-eun's health issues, the agency stated that it is a personal matter and refrained from providing detailed explanations. However, according to broadcast officials, the specific timing of treatment and whether surgery will be included has not been confirmed.
There are concerns that she may have been hurt due to some malicious commenters on 'Running Man.' SBS's flagship variety show 'Running Man' has been running hard every weekend evening since its first broadcast in July 2010, maintaining its presence for 15 years. Although there have been various changes in the member lineup over the years, Yoo Jae-suk remains at the center, along with Ji Seok-jin, Kim Jong-kook, Song Ji-hyo, and Haha. There are a significant number of loyal fans both domestically and internationally.
However, the viewers' standards for female members are particularly strict. Jeon So-min, who joined 'Running Man' for the first time in 2017, has faced harsh comments from some viewers saying "you should leave" on the official 'Running Man' YouTube comments, among others. Due to this issue, the production team of 'Running Man' closed the viewer comment board in 2020.
One malicious commenter is said to have sent several extreme messages, stating, "Jeon So-min is on 'Running Man' every day. The entire family is cursed. Either kick Jeon So-min out of 'Running Man' or have the family cursed every day." Jeon So-min also responded by 'documenting' on social media about the malicious comments.
Ultimately, Jeon So-min stepped down from her fixed position on 'Running Man' after finishing filming on October 30, 2023. Reflecting on the malicious comments she received at that time, she revealed, "Others also face many malicious comments, but if there is a reason for them, I would deeply consider it. However, I feel there really isn't much reason from an objective point of view."
Following Jeon So-min's departure, Song Ji-hyo continued as the only woman, and a year later, Ji Ye-eun joined as a fixed member. Ji Ye-eun, who made her mark on viewers while being a temporary member with Kang Hoon, joined as a fixed member of 'Running Man' in December last year, working alongside Yoo Jae-suk, Ji Seok-jin, Song Ji-hyo, Kim Jong-kook, Haha, Yang Se-chan, and Choi Daniel with great expectations.
However, as the broadcasts continued, malicious commenters began to rise again. The initial fervent support cooled, and there were many negative comments targeting Ji Ye-eun's words and actions. While it cannot be assured that indiscriminate malicious comments are the sole reason for Ji Ye-eun's issues, they surely cannot be ignored.
In December last year, during a phone interview with OSEN, which initially reported Ji Ye-eun's official joining, director Choi Hyung-in emphasized, "There is something important I want to convey. I would like to say please take good care of Ye-eun. I've heard that she reads all the comments. Please write good comments and support her a lot."
Despite this, red flags have been raised regarding Ji Ye-eun's health. However, a representative stated that after sufficient rest, she plans to meet viewers again through the program in which she was a fixed cast member.
