The art cinema CineCube, operated by the Taekwang Group's media subsidiary TAE KWANG CORPORATION, has been officially invited to the 30th Busan International Film Festival in the 'Today's Korean Cinema – Panorama' institutional sector with its film 'The Time of Theaters.' This film will be publicly premiered for domestic audiences during the Busan International Film Festival, which will be held from Sept. 17 to 26.
'The Time of Theaters' has been created in an effort to re-examine the meaning of cinema and art films as part of the CineCube 25th anniversary commemorative project. It is an anthology consisting of two short films directed by Lee Jong-pil and Yoon Ga-eun. Each short explores the essential experience of watching and making films through the stories of individuals connected by the theater.
The first episode tells the story of three film enthusiasts who accidentally meet in Gwanghwamun in 2000 and fall into a mysterious chimpanzee tale. Directed by Lee Jong-pil, known for 'Samjin Group English TOEIC Class,' the episode features actors Kim Dae-myung, Wonstein, Lee Soo-kyung, and Hong Sa-bin. The second episode depicts the story of child actors and a director striving for 'natural acting' on a film set, directed by Yoon Ga-eun of 'Our Home' and 'The World of Us,' with actress Go Ah-sung taking on the role of the director.
The 'Today's Korean Cinema – Panorama' institutional sector serves as an official section introducing major Korean films of the year, showcasing the trends and achievements of contemporary Korean cinema. Through this invitation, CineCube aims to reflect the cultural assets and social values it has accumulated as an art cinema over the past 25 years, and present efforts to expand the possibilities of art cinemas through collaboration with young creators.
Established in 2000, CineCube is the oldest art cinema in Korea and has contributed to the qualitative growth and diversity of Korean film culture over the past 25 years. TAE KWANG CORPORATION, which operates CineCube, has been concurrently importing and distributing art films since 2010, introducing high-quality films such as 'Like Father, Like Son,' 'A Family,' and 'Perfect Days' to Korean audiences. 'The Time of Theaters' is the first work produced by TAE KWANG CORPORATION.
'The Time of Theaters' is scheduled for theatrical release in the first half of next year after the Busan International Film Festival screening. During the festival period, there will also be events such as a GV (Guest Visit) with the director and cast, and stage greetings from the participants.
Park Ji-ye, head of the CineCube team at TAE KWANG CORPORATION, noted, "It is very meaningful that this project, planned to celebrate CineCube's 25th anniversary, meets the audience for the first time through the Busan International Film Festival," and added, "We plan to continue various projects that link creators and audiences, further expanding the role of art cinemas."
