Broadcaster Lee Hye-seung recalled her time working as a news anchor.
On the 26th, a video titled "You don't have to be the main character: The unwavering sincerity of anchor Kim Jae-won" was released on her YouTube channel "Lee Hye-seung's 1% Book Club."
In the video, Lee Hye-seung explained, "Today, I have a very special guest. This person has been warmly received while opening up mornings in Korea for over 10 years. I have invited anchor Kim Jae-won, author of 'A Mother's Face.'" Lee Hye-seung noted, "This is the first time I am inviting someone I have met at work. Having a senior like this to shoot with adds special significance to this occasion," while Kim Jae-won said, "Unless anchors become partners, there aren't many opportunities for juniors and seniors to work together, so I understand that sitting down for an interview like this can feel unfamiliar and uncomfortable for juniors, but I believe that Lee Hye-seung will showcase her abilities without any nervousness."
After completing over 30 years as an anchor, Kim Jae-won is making a fresh start. He said, "To put it nicely, I finished; to put it simply, I liquidated my position," adding, "Being able to live a life focused on the job I love and enjoy, and doing what I am best at for 30 years and 6 months at the same workplace has been a great blessing. When I decided to resign, I had mixed feelings, but when the time came to leave, the viewers expressed their regrets and encouragement, making me feel like, 'Do I deserve to be loved this much?' I received the job of being a KBS anchor, and reflecting on the 12 years spent as the host of 'Morning Garden,' I feel deeply grateful for the qualification to have been loved like this."
He continued, "I thought I would live a life of stone and soil all my life, but I became an anchor, and I thought I would just live as an ordinary anchor; however, becoming the host of 'Morning Garden' and being able to broadcast until my retirement was a great honor. In reality, being an anchor is a profession that breathes with the viewers. Because I breathed with them, I could receive so much love. I love my life, my job, and my workplace."
In response, Lee Hye-seung said, "Not every program's MC is equally loved. And when I think back to my time at KBS, I realize that I didn't deeply reflect on the profession of being an anchor. Rather than thinking about what value I could provide to people, I focused on personal ambitions and success. It's only now that I'm more intensely contemplating my identity as an anchor. I regret not seeking advice or counsel from my seniors back then."
Meanwhile, Lee Hye-seung worked as a KBS anchor from 2016 until May 2020. During her tenure, she acknowledged her relationship with Jun Hyun-moo in 2019, but they broke up in 2022.
