Comedian Lee Seong-mi recalled a time when she lashed out at her son.
On the 22nd, a video titled "Comedian Lee Seong-mi Episode 5 (A Changed Life After Severe Conflict with Her Son)" was uploaded to the "Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life" channel.
That day, Song Seung-hwan asked, "Regarding Christian faith, was there a moment that deepened your belief through talking with your son, having conflicts, and reconciling?"
In response, Lee Seong-mi said, "I was a religious person. Growing up without love, I became very strong when I encountered Christianity. 'No! Why do you do that?' There are people who become legalistic and harsh. It's cold. And I would say, 'You have to keep it, why don't you?' I should be the only one, but I would turn the blame on others, saying 'Why can't that person keep it?' and 'Why are they like that while going to church?'"
She continued, "While living in Canada, I fought and argued with my son. Those processes were incredibly long. I thought that was faith, praying all night, 'God, please change that xx,' 'That bastard, is that a human?' I cried and came home, saying, 'That xx still hasn't changed, that bastard xx.' Then the next day, I went to church and prayed, 'God, please change that xx.'"
She added, "One day, some might ask, 'How could that happen?' but I cursed at my son. My son didn't go to school much like me. So, I set the table and said, 'Hey, you xx, come down and eat, you xx.' When my son came down and sat at the table, I handed him a cup of water and spat out, 'Stupid xx, you are a human scum xx.' In my heart, I felt, this was what I actually thought. 'Should I make my son according to what you said?' That statement stuck with me."
Lee Seong-mi said, "It was terrifying. Then my son should have become a mad dog. I changed that day. I realized I had been living incorrectly. I completely changed, apologizing to my son. I said, 'I'm sorry, I was wrong,' but my son was scared because I suddenly changed. The mom who used to curse wasn't cursing anymore, so he was very anxious. Rather, the one who used to be cursed should be cursed, but he was nervous like a dog trembling, not knowing when the ticking time bomb would explode."
She said, "Then, when I stopped cursing, he started asking why I wasn't cursing. When I explained that I had gone through this process, my son cried for a long time. About the change in his mom. As he began to recover, we became closer, and after going through that process, we returned to Korea."
Meanwhile, Lee Seong-mi, in 1989, gave birth to a son whom she raised on her own, from the singer Kim Hak-rae. After that, she got married to her husband, who was a reporter at the time, amid a single mother's scandal, officially registered her son, and then had two daughters.
