KBS announcer Kim Jin-woong has sparked controversy by making a 'sub' remark to his senior, Do Kyung-wan, while his past comments are being 'uncovered'.
In an episode aired in July, KBS2's "Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears," Park Myung-soo visited an amusement park with Ye-won to conduct the 'Walking to Boss's House' corner. During this, he was surprised to see someone's face approaching him and said, "Oh, what are you?"
The person was none other than Kim Jin-woong. In the studio, senior Um Ji-in exclaimed, "Why did he go there?" while Jun Hyun-moo noted, "I got a text from him. He said there's filming tomorrow, and he asked what he should do."
Um Ji-in was shocked, saying, "Kim Jin-woong didn't tell me. I didn't know," and Jun Hyun-moo added, "He said he wouldn't tell you." Then, Um Ji-in shouted angrily, "He's out. Out of the announcer's office."
It turned out that Kim Jin-woong was an ambitious person. He explained, "I wanted to become a star. To become a star, you have to be next to a star, right? So I tried to get in with Park Myung-soo's line and left Hyun-moo hyung to come here."
Kim Jin-woong drew a line, saying, "I didn't even think about Team Leader Um Ji-in," to which Um Ji-in responded, "Did he just switch bosses?" Even so, Kim Jin-woong reiterated, "I came to become reborn in Park Myung-soo's line."
Thus, Um Ji-in exposed, "Kim Jin-woong never practices. He always comes later than I do for rehearsal and preparation."
Rather than becoming a star, Kim Jin-woong found himself at the center of controversy due to his misstatements.
On the broadcast from the 24th, Um Ji-in praised, "Among the male juniors, the one who got married the best is Do Kyung-wan. His wife, Jang Yoon-jung, is busy with a nationwide tour, and after getting married, he appears on broadcasts more often. They sing together and co-host together."
However, Kim Jin-woong made a shocking statement: "I can't live like senior Do Kyung-wan. It's really disrespectful to say this to my senior, but I can't live as someone's 'sub.'" He used the term 'sub' to describe Do Kyung-wan's dedication and support for his wife and children.
Um Ji-in asked, "Why is Do Kyung-wan a 'sub'?" and Kim Jin-woong replied, "I apologize to my senior, and it may be disrespectful, but it seems it's hard for me to live that way," firmly stating that he cannot provide that kind of support.
Such comments led to a tremendous backlash. Eventually, Jang Yoon-jung expressed her displeasure on her personal SNS by stating, "I have no personal connection, so it's laughable," and added, "Words or actions that cannot make the other party laugh can't be wrapped in jokes. There are no 'subs' within a family."
Kim Jin-woong also posted an apology on SNS, saying, "I apologize for the careless remarks that have caused concern to Do Kyung-wan and Jang Yoon-jung, my seniors. I also extend my apologies to the viewers and fans who felt discomfort due to this."
